But what very few people know is that it's the first state to give women the right to vote.In fact, the state recognized the importance of the female vote back in 1870, 50 years before it was enacted into the U.S. Constitution."We owe this act to men,” says Kim Viner, a docent at the Laramie Plains Museum. “Because obviously men were the only ones who could pass such a law in the territory at the time."According to Viner, the men passed the act to allow women the right to vote and hold office, in hopes it would bring more families to Wyoming and help the territory to become a state."The right decision for all the wrong reasons," Viner says.Wyoming had the first female bailiff, justice of the peace and governor. It also was first state to allow women on a jury. But it was Louisa Ann Swain who changed the course of history."She was just a Quaker woman, 70 years old, when she cast that first vote," Viner says.Swain was simply going into town to get her yeast, when she cast her ballot, making her the first woman in the U.S. to cast a ballot in the general election."She was not the fist-pounding suffragette, saying ‘We need these rights,’ says Mary Mountain, a docent at the museum. “But when the right was afforded, she stepped up."Not only did the suffragette women fight for the rights of women, but they had a few good men backing them."It sounds harsh to say, ‘allowing them,’ but in those days they were,” explains Mountain. “These men were saying, ‘Let’s let women do this."Mountain says women forget their power until they are heard and believes today's political climate resembles so much of what took place nearly 150 years ago."We fall into what is customary,” Mountain says. “Men for our 20th century were guiding the political scene, and we are now saying, ‘Hmm, I don't think that has to continue." 1902

Yvonne Staples, one of the four members of the famed gospel and R&B group the Staples Singers, died on Tuesday at the age of 80, a family spokesperson confirmed to NPR. A cause of death has not been announced. The Staples Singers had several No. 1 hits in the 1970s, including "I'll Take You There" and "Let's Do It Again." The group comprised of Yvonne Staples, and sisters Mavis and Cleotha and brother Pervis. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999. The Staples Singers also earned a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2005 Grammys. Yvonne's sister Cleotha died in 2013. Yvonne Staples was survived by her brother Pervis, and Mavis, who is coming off a tour with Bob Dylan.  766

With stay-at-home orders and continued safety precautions to stop the spread of the coronavirus keeping humans at home or away from each other, robots and automated systems have been picking up some of the slack.The World Economic Forum says the COVID-19 pandemic has forced the labor market to change faster than expected, embracing automation and robotic helpers to keep businesses going while human employees have to stay home or remain socially distant.That acceleration will disrupt, or displace, roughly 85 million jobs around the world by 2025, according to the group’s Future of Jobs Report 2020.According to the report, by 2025, roles and jobs that leverage human skills will rise in demand. Machines will primarily be focused on information and data processing, administrative tasks and routine manual jobs.The group says emerging professions in the next several years will be in data and artificial intelligence, content creation and cloud computing. They also say employers will be looking for these top skills among their employees: analytical thinking, creativity and flexibility.“COVID-19 has accelerated the arrival of the future of work,” said Saadia Zahidi, Managing Director, World Economic Forum. “Accelerating automation and the fallout from the COVID-19 recession has deepened existing inequalities across labour markets and reversed gains in employment made since the global financial crisis in 2007-2008. It’s a double disruption scenario that presents another hurdle for workers in this difficult time. The window of opportunity for proactive management of this change is closing fast.”The “robot revolution” could create 97 million new jobs. Thompson made the request in late June and it was approved July 3. The permit from the health department says Dillinger will be reburied at Crown Hill at 10 a.m. Sept. 16. No reason is given on the permit for the request.Savanah S. Light, director of Light Memorial Funeral Chapel in Monrovia, is listed on the permit as the funeral director who will attend the exhumation.
