WASHINGTON, May 1 (Xinhua) -- The launch of U.S. space shuttle Endeavour on its final voyage will be no earlier than May 8, after technical problems uncovered last week proved more complex than originally thought, the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced Sunday.NASA tried to launch Endeavour on Friday on its 25th and final flight to deliver the 2-billion-dollar Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) particle detector to the International Space Station. AMS, a particle physics detector, is designed to search for various types of unusual matter by measuring cosmic rays. Heaters are required to keep the APUs' hydrazine from freezing on orbit.NASA hoped Endeavour would lift off on Monday. But further trouble-shooting indicated the glitch was more complicated than officials hoped initially.The failure appears to be a power problem within the aft load control assembly-2, a box of switches controlling power feeds."That basically means the power is not getting out to the heaters that weren't working on launch day," said Space Shuttle Program Launch Integration Manager Mike Moses.

The enemy is not humans but animals like dogs who have been generally seen as human's best friends," Peter, who asked not to identify his full name, told Xinhua.Mail carriers in the United States feel the real danger of being attacked by dogs while delivering mails door by door.Statistics released by the U.S. Post Office showed that 5,669 postal employees were attacked by dogs in 2010 in the United States. That's an average of 11 dog attacks every delivery day, and that figure does not include the number of threatening incidents that did not result in injury.Los Angeles is the third most dangerous city in the U.S. when it comes to being a mail carrier with 44 mail carriers being attacked by dogs in 2010, according to the U.S. Post Office.San Diego in California and Columbus in Ohio tied for second place, each logging 45 dog attacks. Houston in Texas is the most dangerous city in the U.S. for mail carriers with 62 attacks in 2010.On May 25, 2010, Eddie Lin, a 33-year old Chinese American postal carrier in San Diego, was attacked by a dog while delivering mail, his head hit on the ground and died 10 days later. His death angered his family and the whole community.The daughter of the dog's owner, who identified herself as Eva, said the incident has devastated her father."We feel really bad," Eva told the local press in an interview. "It's just killing my Dad," she added.On Sept. 30, 2010, a German Shepard and a Pitbull mix attacked Hu Ruiz, a 10-year veteran of the U.S. Postal Service. He luckily recovered from puncture wounds on his arms after the two dogs attacked him as he made deliveries along Camden Avenue in San Jose, California.It is not the problem for the mail carriers only. Dogs attack other people too. Statistics showed that there are more than 4.7 million Americans bitten by dogs nationwide annually.

BEIJING, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu on Sunday urged local authorities to intensify efforts to prevent forest fires.The senior Chinese official also ordered the country's forest fire prevention departments to come up with emergency response measures to be implemented as soon as fires break out.Hui warned that the country faced severe challenges from forest fires as the drought in the north continued and there was less rain than normal in the south in February.A total of 168 forest fires were recorded from Feb. 2 to Feb. 6, according to monitoring stations from the country's forest fire management authority.On Saturday, a forest blaze killed six people and left another three injured in east China's Zhejiang Province. Local officials said fireworks were the likely cause of the tragedy.

BEIJING, Feb. 8 (Xinhuanet) -- China's railroads and highways will see their busiest day of the Spring Festival holiday on Tuesday when the number of travelers returning to major cities hits its peak, just as a cold snap sweeps across much of the country, the ministries of railways and transport said on Monday.The Ministry of Railways said on its website that there had been a sharp rise in the number of travelers leaving smaller cities on Monday bound for such places as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.The ministry said the number of people on the move on Tuesday is likely to make the day the Spring Festival travel peak.The nation's roads are also likely to be at their Spring Festival maximum on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Ministry of Transport reported on Monday on its official website.The National Meteorological Center (NMC) added on Monday that a moderate cold snap was expected on Tuesday, causing temperatures to fall by between four and six degrees in most parts of China.The weather pattern will bring widespread rain and snow to the southern part of China from Wednesday to Friday, the NMC said.The Ministry of Railways said on its website that it has asked its local branches to be prepared for the upcoming icy weather.Meanwhile, the local authorities in big cities have been bracing for the arrival of massive numbers of travelers as the Spring Festival holiday winds down.In Shanghai, tens of thousands of public transportation workers cut their holidays short and put 27 additional bus lines on the road to meet demand as passengers began arriving in large numbers at the city's railway stations.The influx began on Saturday night, according to local newspaper Wenhui Daily.On Sunday, the pressure intensified on the Qinghai-Tibet railway, two days earlier than expected.As a result, the railway company organized additional workers to facilitate the flow of people through Xining Railway Station in Northwest China's Qinghai province.Many volunteers have also been pitching in to help keep people moving and have offered to do various jobs at stations, such as helping people buy tickets and assisting them in checking their travel schedules.Among them, Liu Chen, a student from the Guangzhou-based Zhongkai University of Agriculture and Engineering, has been helping people at Guangzhou Railway Station by carrying their bags."One day, I helped more than 70 passengers with their luggage and, after all of them got on the trains, it felt like my legs were almost paralyzed," he said.The Hohhot railway bureau in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region said it is expecting so many extra passengers that it has scheduled four additional trains for lines to Chongqing and Beijing.With so many people scrambling to get back from family gatherings and holidays to their jobs in China's big cities, the rush to buy tickets has been phenomenal.
