However, some businesses changed their hours of operation or how many people the business could support at once thanks to the pandemic, so customers would be losing their money on these purchases.Now, Groupon offers customers 72 hours to cancel any purchases, just in case. Even with the extended grace period though, some say it's still a good idea to call ahead and double-check how a business is operating."Figuring out what the business looks like, have their hours been affected, are they temporarily closed because of COVID and if they are open it’s not a bad idea to call and see if they are honoring the group because so many businesses are being affected by COVID," Sara Kemerer, a Tri-State public relations specialist with the Better Business Bureau, said to WCPO.On its coronavirus update page, Groupon said if your voucher was extended past its expiration date, you'd receive an email with the new expiration date.Groupon also said you can check your My Groupons on your account to see if the expiration date has been extended. (KGTV) - A grieving Poway cat owner says her heart dropped when she heard a distinctive rattling sound coming from the area where two of her cats were playing.Along Utopia Road just past 3 p.m. Thursday, a picture-perfect afternoon turned into a nightmare in Donna McFarlane's backyard. She was inside her home, heard a commotion and saw her 15-year-old tabby Tyler leap onto the patio, before running into the house. As McFarlane stepped out, she heard an ominous sound."It was just a loud, huge rattle," said McFarlane.She grabbed her other cat Tiger and tossed her into the house, away from the source of the rattle. "Behind the hose, the snake was coiled and hissing. The tail was rattling," said McFarlane.McFarlane ran inside and looked for Tyler."Almost didn't want to find him, because I didn't want to see what I was going to find. When I found him in the living room, he was stumbling over and drooling. Where the snake had bit him on the face, his eyes were bloodshot red," said McFarlane.She rushed Tyler to a nearby veterinarian, but the antivenin treatment wasn't enough. Tyler was put down that night."I still cry. It's devastating," said McFarlane.The next day, the snake, a 3-to-4-foot Pacific Coast rattlesnake, was found and relocated.This year, rains have delayed the first rattlesnake sightings by several weeks. But experts believe those rains could lead to a big snake season. More rain means more food for rodents and other snake prey. According to a study published in Clinical Toxicology, rattlesnake bites in the state jump more than 10% after rainy seasons. Back in Poway, since the attack, McFarlane has begun taking out all the trees and plants where snakes could hide. She's also ordered additional fencing to fill in the gaps and installed a device that emits sound waves to ward off snakes. She has three other cats."Will just be watching them a lot more carefully," said McFarlane.McFarlane says her ordeal shows rattlesnakes can turn up anywhere. PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — A couple believes they got bed bugs from shopping at Port Charlotte Town Center.Matthew Nystrom said he noticed bed bugs in his bedroom Sunday. Just one day after his wife bought new jeans for him at one of the mall's department stores.He said he didn’t know where the bugs came from at first, but he said they noticed the bugs the same day he decided to wear his new jeans. Then he found a bed bug gnawing at his leg.“Pulling it out of my leg was like…I better not tell my wife or she’s gonna freak out,” Nystrom said. Then he decided to tell his wife Hillary Nystrom.She said she read comments from other people on social media complaining about bed bugs at the mall. That's when she decided to check the other pair of brand new pants that they hadn’t taken out of the bag yet.“I pulled the one pair that were in there out and I just unfolded it. And there was one sitting right there,” she said, referring to a bed bug.She said she saw it in the shopping bag after they had the house exterminated by Ace Pest Management. Pest specialist Randy Wells shared a few tips on how to get rid of them as soon as possible.“Pretty much anything that you can throw in a dryer that you think has bed bugs or the like, just put it in at high heat on a cycle and that’ll kill the bedbugs. And again call a pest professional for a thorough inspection,” he said.Wells added people can also rid their homes of the bugs by avoiding taking affected items or even moving from room to room.Several other customers have complained on Facebook about finding bed bugs in clothing after shopping at Port Charlotte Town Center, too. One said a friend was bitten on her foot after wearing new shoes from a shoe store.
