Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson was caught on video joining the crowd that was marching in Flint Township in honor of George Floyd, the black man who died after an officer knelt on his neck during an arrest in Minneapolis. HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — A Florida woman was in for an unexpected surprise after her new weight loss surgery.For close to a decade, Daria Yackwack, a former Tampa resident who now lives in Fort Walton Beach, had to live with polycycstic ovary syndrome. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services defines it as a hormonal imbalance that affects 1 in 10 women. For Yackwack, it meant weight gain and a lot of changes for what her future would look like."Back when I first got diagnosed, (doctors) were like 'it’s going to be really hard to get pregnant,'" said Yackwack.Last year, she made a decision for herself to have gastric sleeve surgery. It was a surgery that would remove more than half of her stomach.Her weight loss was evident in pictures and her doctors said she was doing great.But in August, it was when her success turned into a scare.“I woke up with a very bad back pain. I was crying and like screaming and I woke up my other half and I was like 'my back really hurts. I’m not sure what’s really going on,'" said Yackwack.A trip to the bathroom didn't seem right to her. She thought a cyst ruptured due to her PCOS, she said it happened all the time.Turns out, she was 35 weeks pregnant. "(Doctors) came and did a fourth ultrasound and they went up like in my ribcage and they’re like, 'oh yeah. There’s a baby in there. It’s a big baby. GREELEY, Colo. – The man who crashed into and killed a Colorado State Trooper during the bomb cyclone storm in March was sentenced to 90 days in jail on Wednesday.John Carpenter, 58, of Centennial, had pleaded guilty in October to a charge of failure to exercise due care when approaching a stationary vehicle resulting in death. An initial second charge of careless driving causing death was dismissed.On March 13, CSP Cpl. Daniel Groves was helping a stranded motorist on Interstate 76, just west of Roggen, during the massive blizzard. The driver of a 2001 Volvo, who was later identified as Carpenter, lost control and struck Groves outside his patrol vehicle. Groves was transported to Platte Valley Medical Center, where he died. Carpenter had moderate injuries from the crash.Carpenter was also sentenced to eight and a half years of probation and ordered to work 850 hours of community service. 914

House lawmakers have passed a bill that makes animal cruelty a federal felony.The so- called "PACT Act" specifically bans crushing, burning, drowning and impaling animals, among other things.It would also allow officials to go after suspected animal abusers who cross state lines.But according to its co-sponsor, U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla., it would also close a big loophole.His office says the bill would specifically ban animal cruelty recorded on video.Previous laws have de-legalized creating and selling those videos, but not the acts of cruelty in them.Another co-sponsor of the bill, U.S. Rep. Ted Deutch, D-Fla., says the legislation sends a clear message that our society does not accept animal cruelty.Violations of the bill could lead to prison for up to seven years. 796
