CHULA VISTA (KGTV) - A DUI/Driver's License checkpoint at one of Chula Vista's busiest intersections led to three arrests, police said.The Chula Vista Police Department said officers screened 751 vehicles at the checkpoint which was was conducted between 7 p.m. Friday and 1 a.m. Saturday in the 600 block of Palomar Street.Police said the three drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. In addition to the three arrests, police impounded nine vehicles and issued 21 citations for people driving without licenses or on suspended licenses. No other details were released.A total of 51 citations were issued for "various vehicle code violations," according to police."DUI/Drivers License checkpoints have been shown to lower DUI deaths and injuries. A major component of these checkpoints are the deterrent effects it has on those who might drive drunk or drugged impaired, bringing about more awareness and encouraging everyone to use sober designated drivers," the Chula Vista Police Department said in a release.More than 1,300 cars traveled through the checkpoint, police said.The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration."The Chula Vista PD will be conducting additional DUI/Drivers License Checkpoints through out the remainder of the year in our ongoing commitment to lowering deaths and injuries upon our streets and highways," police said. 1505

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The FBI and Chula Vista Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man suspected of robbing six credit unions in San Diego County. The suspect, who was dubbed the "Gloved Robber" after wearing grey gloves during all of the heists, has so far robbed six credit unions. The robberies have all taken place between December 28, 2018 and February 23, 2019. According to the FBI, after entering each of the businesses, the suspect approached the tellers, handing them a note demanding cash. The FBI says the man wore a similar style of clothing in several of the robberies. Along with the grey gloves, the man wore sunglasses and hoods to cover his face. During two of the robberies, the man carried a motorcycle helmet into the credit unions. The robber also carried a calculator in his hand and held it to his ear like a cellphone during several of the robberies. CHULA VISTA, Calif., (KGTV) -- No justice served. That is what a Chula Vista father said after he found out that the boys and young men who publicly attacked his son in April already got out of jail. Punch after punch. Kick after kick. Cell phone video shows 16-year-old Paul Martin being beaten while lying helplessly in the fetal position. "Our family changed since that day. It's not the same," Paul's father, Margarito Martin, told 10News. RELATED: Otay Ranch family upset over violent videoThey have not been the same since April 11, 2019. Margarito said his son was at the Cotixan Mexican Restaurant in Otay Ranch after school, defending a friend who had been bullied on social media. That is when seven people robbed and violently assaulted him. Police later arrested five minors and two adults. Investigators found that some of them were wearing cleats for maximum damage. Martin said miraculously, Paul only sustained scrapes, bruises, and a sprained wrist. "They knew what they were doing," Martin said. "They're not kids. They were 18, 19, and one of them was already 20."After a lengthy trial, the attackers were convicted of felony assault. But they were only sentenced to time served. 19-year-olds Aldrin Uy of Paradise Hills and Kent Pasunting of North Bay Terraces received years probation. All seven are now back on the street. The judge cited "restorative justice" for their lighter sentences. "If you injure anybody or assault anybody, [they should] be sentenced more heavily," Martin said. That is why the family is now fighting to change the law regarding juvenile and young adult offenders. They have started a change.org petition to lower the age for adult charges when dealing with serious felonies. "I know they are minors, and they need another chance," Martin said. "We've all been there. Bad stuff when we were kids. Graffiti and that stuff, you're only affecting property. (KGTV) -- Parents at Eastlake High School are asking the Sweetwater Union High School District board to investigate a math teacher that students accuse of making inappropriate comments. The parents say the issue started last spring when the teacher made comments about erectile dysfunction in class. Other parents say the teacher hardly teaches, forcing their kids to fall behind. Dan Huslin, a parent of an Eastlake High sophomore, said the school's principal told him last year the teacher was suspended, but this year he found out he's back in the classroom. Huslin said when he asked about why he returned, the current principal told him the district was providing the teacher counseling to help him improve. On Monday night, parents spoke at a Sweetwater district meeting and asked the board to investigate and remove the teacher. Also, parents asked the district to provide math tutoring for the students who are now behind. A district spokesperson told 10News the teacher was not suspended last year and was instead out for personal reasons, adding that they couldn't comment on whether the teacher is receiving any counseling because it is a personnel matter. The spokesperson did say the parents concerns are being addressed, but wouldn't specify how. 1288

CHULA VISTA, Calif (KGTV) -- Students in the south bay could get free lunches this June. The Sweetwater Union High School District announced Monday that its popular meal program is making a comeback. Called the “Seamless Summer Feeding Program,” free meals are being offered for most of June. According to the district, the free meals are available to anyone 18 and younger. The program runs from June 10 through June 28 Monday through Friday from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m. The free lunches are being offered at Montgomery High School and Sweetwater Union High. According to the district, no registration is needed. “Just come and enjoy some great food,” a flyer from the district reads.
