SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Warmth and sunshine return to San Diego this weekend to make weeks of steady storms a distant memory. Temperatures will reach the mid 70s at the coast by Saturday, according to Kalyna Astrinos in the 10News Pinpoint Weather Center. The weekend will see gradual warming, with temperatures climbing to the high 70s by Sunday. Check your 10News Pinpoint Weather ForecastIn the desert, sunny skies will make the colors of wildflower super bloom pop. Expect temperatures in the 80s in the Borrego Springs area, Kalyna says. Get information about visiting Anza Borrego Desert State Park here.If you’re going to the beach, conditions should be excellent. No cloud cover should interrupt your sunbathing, and no strong winds are in the forecast to blow sand onto your towel. Lifeguards are prepared for crowds. SDFD lifeguards began using seasonal or part-time staffing March 1, in addition to full-time teams, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue spokesperson Mónica Mu?oz.Beachgoers will find their chief concern is finding a parking spot - not the weather.RELATED: Parking rules for San Diego Beaches / Check water quality at your favorite beaches / Exploring San Diego: Fun ways to explore San Diego's beaches / 'Dr. Beach' names Coronado Beach among best in the U.S. / Report card grades San Diego beaches' water quality 1342

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Wednesday, a San Diego City Council Infrastructure Committee was briefed on the progress of a downtown building that’s presently costing taxpayers millions and may end up costing tens of millions more. The 19-story building at 101 Ash Street was supposed to be about saving taxpayers money and improving communication among city employees. But some council members say it’s becoming a symbol for just the opposite."What people need to remember is this is tax-payer money," says Councilman David Alvarez. "That could be used for a thousand different projects like streets and sidewalks."RELATED: Study: Housing in San Diego suburbs cost more than downtownThe building was acquired by the city in 2016 for million to allow the city to avoid future increases in rent anticipated downtown.A city staff report estimated renovation costs to make the building move-in ready at million. The report also projected long-term savings for the city of more than million."We were given maps, we were given spreadsheets on the savings," says Alvarez.Flipping through a staff report, Alvarez says the projections were laid out in detail and signed by the city’s real estate department and chief operating officer. On Wednesday, many of the people behind the report attended a committee hearing to explain how a million bill became million.RELATED: San Diego City Council committee addresses need for middle-income housingIn pre-meeting statements shared by Councilwoman Barbara Bry, the staff pointed to discoveries of problems with the plumbing, air conditioning, and electricity that would need attention on all 19 floors.Information Alvarez says he would have liked up front before the building was purchased. He says his goal now is to get to the bottom of the misinformation and try to stem the ongoing expenditures."How do we move quickly to stop the bleeding. In that, the taxpayers aren’t continuing to be on the hook for an empty building."Ultimately, the committee voted to support appropriations of .2 million to million to support the new budget adjustments. Councilman Alvarez was the only dissenting vote.  2185

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- With a global pandemic and calls for social justice and equity, 2020 was a year full of change. We all were required to think quickly and adapt. It forced us to think long and hard about our values and what we can – and are called to – do, as organizations and individuals. What has the impact been on our careers and long-term plans? How have organizations changed how and who they hire? Are new skill sets in demand? Is there a more thoughtful approach to diversity and inclusion? And what about our young people – are they rethinking their plans, and what they imagine for their lives and careers? Our featured speakers this week include executive coach Azadeh Davari, executive recruiter Trevor Blair, and Reality Changers CEO Tamara Craver. The conversation will be moderated by LEAD Vice President Elizabeth Fitzsimons.WHEN: December 9 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pmJOIN VIA ZOOM: https://sdchamber.org/event/webinar-series-leading-in-a-new-reality-7/WATCH ON FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/ABC10News/ 1025

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - When you book a flight, your base price may not represent the final bill due to mounting airline fees. As 10News examines ways to make it in San Diego, we have solutions for saving money on travel. It's not your imagination: fees are part of the way airlines do business."Instead of just one price for everything, it's now an a la carte menu," said AAA spokesman Allan Gundy. The hidden charges don't just apply to your luggage. Gundy says fees can climb for seat selection, reservation changes and cancellation, beverages, and in-flight wifi.RELATED: Making It in San Diego: Getting to paradise on points this summerBefore you book, consider investing in a refundable ticket if you believe changes are possible. Also, many airlines charge higher fees to cancel within 24 hours of a flight, so act quickly if you know your travel plans need to be altered, AARP reports.Remember to download movies or games before you fly or, if you must have wifi, Grundy says to "sign up for a monthly subscription service like gogo, which is what most of the major U.S. airlines use."Food prices are high on planes, but you can buy snacks to take through TSA checkpoints and pick up beverages after security.RELATED: Making It in San Diego: What to know about using Tijuana airport's Cross Border XpressGundy also recommends you don't book the cheapest flight you find online because it may not be that great of a deal."Look at what all the additional fees would amount to and look at the total ticket cost," said Grundy. As for cutting down or skipping those fees altogether, there are a few things you can do. "There are airline branded credit cards that as a perk may offer free luggage," advises Gundy. You can also dodge fees by reaching out to a travel agent to find the best deals. 1798
