Just three days after James Holzhauer won Jeopardy's 2019 Tournament of Champions, he along with two other past Jeopardy champs have been invited back to participate in an ultimate showdown. Holzhauer will be joined by Ken Jennings, who owns Jeopardy's longest winning streak at 74 games. They will be opposed by Brad Rutter, who has won the most money in Jeopardy history due to his number of tournament wins. In a new court-ordered effort to identify potentially thousands of additional immigrant families that the US government separated at the southern border, more than 1,700 cases of possible separation have been found so far.Cmdr. Jonathan White of the US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps says 1,712 cases with "some preliminary indication of separation" have been referred to US Customs and Border Protection for the next phase of review out of the initial pool of 4,108 children's case files that corps officers combed through.Some of those cases ultimately might not involve separations, White said Friday in a federal court hearing."What we transmit to CBP is solely those cases that have some preliminary indication of separation," White said. "We err on the side of inclusion."The new effort to track down parents and children who were split up at the border is the latest chapter in the ACLU's lawsuit over family separations.While last year a court order in the case from US District Judge Dana Sabraw in San Diego forced the reunification of many immigrant families the government had separated at the border as result of its "zero tolerance" policy, an explosive government watchdog report in January revealed there could be thousands more separated families that officials hadn't previously acknowledged. Sabraw ruled in March that this group should be included in the class action lawsuit over family separations.And in April, the judge approved the government's plan "designed to substantially identify all class members within six months."In total, officials have said they'll need to review some 47,000 files dating to July 1, 2017.Friday, White told Sabraw that the initial phase of case review was going more quickly than he expected. As of Friday, he said, his team has completed preliminary reviews of more than 13,000 files."We started running at this problem. .. .We are ahead of my operation targets that I had set for my own team at this time," White said.Once the Public Health Service team completes its preliminary review, case files with indication of separation then go to CBP and Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further analysis. Then a refined list will go back to the Department of Health and Human Services. As they confirm additional separations, officials will provide a list of parents and children to ACLU attorneys on a rolling basis.Sabraw described the work officials have done so far as "very encouraging" and urged them to provide any confirmed information they have to ACLU attorneys as soon as possible.It's unclear when the first confirmed list could be ready."Our hope is to have a more concrete report with overall timing the next time we report to you on progress," Scott Stewart, an attorney for the government, said in court Friday.In a court filing Thursday, White said HHS is expediting efforts to hire and train a team of data scientists and "scalable teams of record reviewers" to help with the effort. 2980

This family took in a little boy and gave him a lifesaving gift.Nicole Alles and her husband have been fostering children for more than a decade. A few years ago, the couple decided to take a break and decide if this is what they wanted to continue doing.That’s when they received a call about a baby boy that no one was willing to take in.“WE got a call for him in December and they couldn’t find anyone to take him in because of all of his medical complications,” said Nicole.Sebastian was born in October of 2014 with a long list of health concerns including end stage renal, collapsed lungs and stage 4 chronic kidney disease."I mean the biggest issue was that his kidneys weren't working and we knew we were going to need to start him on dialysis before he even left the hospital,” said Dr. Myda Khalid, children’s kidney doctor at Riley Hospital.Sebastian would eventually need a new kidney.Nicole, a home healthcare nurse, knew she could help Sebastian. The couple took him in and she did his dialysis at home."We took him in under the premise that he would probably go back home soon, but that did not happen,” said Nicole.After four months, Sebastian’s biological parents discontinued their parental rights.In 2016, the Alles family legally adopted him.His two foot tall box of medical records was delivered to their home shortly after.That’s when Nicole learned she and her newly adopted son shared a blood type.After waiting for Sebastian to be strong enough for a transplant, Nicole went through extensive testing and learned she was a match.“When they found out I was a tissue match for him that was when we were just so excited because that just meant so much to us that I was able to give him the kidney,” said Nicole.Today Sebastian is one year post operation. He’s healthier than ever.His kidney transplant, one of many successful surgeries he’s had to improve his quality of life.“To look at him, you really wouldn’t know he’s been through as much as he’s been through,” said Nicole.Nicole believes Sebastian was meant to come into her life so she could be his mother and his donor.“Being able to save his life... it makes me very emotional, very fortunate... very blessed... very happy because I know that I was a part of that,” said Alles. 2346

It took a few hours for the news to be released, but by all indications, Ryan Newman is okay. NASCAR officials said Newman had non life-threatening injuries following a horrific crash at the end of the Daytona 500 on Monday.Newman is in serious condition after being transported to the hospital. As Newman approached the finish line of the Daytona 500 on Monday, he was set to win his first Daytona 500 in 12 years. But a nudge from behind sent Newman into the wall as his competitors crossed the finish line. The crash allowed Denny Hamlin to win his second straight Daytona 500. As Hamlin celebrated the win, attention quickly turned to Newman, whose car spun out of control and burst into flames. After Newman's car struck the wall and flipped, it was then struck at full speed by Corey LaJoie's vehicle, causing Newman's car to flip again. Emergency crews raced to rescue Newman following the stunning crash.The celebration for Hamlin was subdued following the race."I think we take for granted sometimes how safe the cars are," Hamlin said. "But No. 1, we're praying for Ryan. Worked really well with Ryan through this whole race, and obviously he got turned right there."Ryan Blaney, who came in second place, described his view of the incident. "We pushed Newman there to the lead, and then we got a push from the 11 (Danny Hamlin's car), and I made a move off 4 (Kevin Harvick's car) on Newman and he blocked it and I kind of went low and he blocked that, so then I was committed to just pushing him to the win and trying to have a Ford win it, and I don't know, we just got bumpers hooked up wrong and turned him," Blaney said. "I hope he's all right. Looked pretty good. Definitely was trying to push him to a win. I don't want to say those things happen.
