BEIJING, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Local governments should lay stress on economy restructuring and innovation to guarantee the long-term stable and relatively fast economic growth, said Li Keqiang, Chinese Vice Premier.     Li made the remarks in his recent inspection and research trip to central China's Jiangxi Province from Sept. 24 to 26. We should base ourselves on the current realities and be more forward-looking and broad-minded," He said.     Li added that China should push forward the deepening of reforms and strategic economy restructuring while maintaining the relatively fast economic growth.     China's economy expanded by 7.9 percent from a year ago in the second quarter this year, faster than the 6.1 percent in the first quarter, which was the worst quarterly growth in a decade, dampened by a slump in exports.     Li urged provinces in the central region to give a full play to their growth potential and advantages, take on the development opportunities of strategic importance, improve the quality of economic growth and achieve remarkable economic progress through reforms, innovation and industrial upgrading.     Central China provinces should endeavor to achieve remarkable economic advancement by 2015, according to a plan passed Wednesday by the State Council, the Cabinet.     The central areas include Shanxi, Anhui, Jiangxi, Henan, Hubei and Hunan provinces. BEIJING, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- China still has a long way to go in upgrading industrial processes, although it had managed to secure economic stabilization and was moving upwards, Zhuang Jian, a senior economist with the Asian Development Bank, said Thursday.     "China has achieved great success in bolstering the economy's growth through a series of plans to stimulate it, but it should also continue making efforts to upgrade its industries, as well as its energy-saving and pollution reduction measures, to sustain development," Zhuang said.     China's economic growth had slowed during the global downturn, but expanded 7.9 percent in the second quarter of 2009 year on year after sinking to 6.1 percent in the first quarter.     Zhuang said the improvement of China's industrial structure and increasing energy conservation were of critical importance to the world.     Government figures show the amount of energy consumed in China to produce a unit of gross domestic product (GDP) dropped 3.35 percent year on year in the first half. The decrease compares with 2.88 percent for the first half of last year.     China should also promote domestic consumption to boost economic growth, he said.

PYONGYANG, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), met with Dai Bingguo, Chinese state councilor and special envoy of Chinese President Hu Jintao, here Thursday to discuss relations between their two countries.     Kim asked Dai to convey his greetings to his Chinese counterpart, Wu Bangguo, and offered congratulations on the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.     Kim expressed his wish that the Chinese people, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, will continue the country's modernization drive.     Kim reiterated that it is the unshakable stand of the Worker's Party of Korea and the DPRK government to consolidate and further promote the traditional DPRK-China friendship.     He said the DPRK side would work with the Chinese side to push forward DPRK-China relations.     Dai conveyed Wu Bangguo's greetings, saying the Chinese government and the Chinese people treasured the friendship with the DPRK, and would strengthen the exchange and cooperation with the DPRK side to write together a new chapter of the friendship.     This year also marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries and has been named the Year of China-DPRK Friendship.     After the meeting, Dai and Kim watched the debut of the opera, "The Dream of the Red Chamber" at the Pyongyang Grand Theater. The opera, based on a Chinese classic, was staged first in the 1960s under the initiative and instruction of late DPRK president Kim IlSung.     The opera has been renovated and re-staged as a major event in the Year of China-DPRK Friendship. DPRK top leader Kim Jong Il has taken a strong interest in its development and has watched a rehearsal.
