(KGTV) — Los Angeles police are searching for the person behind the fatal shooting of an off-duty officer early Saturday.An officer was flagged down just before 1 a.m. over reports of a shooting in the area of Avenue 26 at Humboldt St. in the Lincoln Heights area. The officer found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds, one of them identified as off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer Juan José Diaz."It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm the off-duty LAPD Officer has passed away as a result of the shooting. A baby has died after being snatched from his mother's lap by a monkey in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.Neighbors rushed to help after hearing the mother's screams on Monday afternoon in a village near Agra city, according to Agra Police Assistant Superintendent Abhishek, who goes only by his first name.The baby was just 12 days old."They threw stones at the monkey to force it to drop the baby but by the time he abandoned it, he had already attacked him severely on the face," Abhishek told CNN.The child's body was recovered from the terrace of an adjacent house.Police said his injuries indicate he was bitten on the face.Monkey attacks are common in India, especially in the country's capital New Delhi.In Central Delhi, government offices are surrounded by dozens of monkeys swinging from the trees or lounging in the sun on the sidewalk.According to the Delhi government, 268 cases of monkey bites were registered in the city in 2016.In 2018, the Indian government said it had approved a pilot project for immune-contraception to control the population of wild animals including monkeys in the city. 1129

(KGTV) - Residents in a Rancho Pe?asquitos neighborhood say they are frustrated at the delays keeping a popular community park closed. 10News has uncovered that a key error by a contractor hired by the city is at least partly responsible for the park remaining closed past its scheduled reopening date.When 10News visited Rollings Hills Park Wednesday afternoon it was empty, with the exception of one man walking his dog on the outfield of the park's baseball diamond, the only portion of the park still available to the public. "Normally you'd expect this thing to be fairly packed," said Rick McElroy, who lives across the street.The ,500,000 renovation project began in August, 2018 with Mayor Kevin Faulconer and Councilmember Mark Kersey attending a ceremonial groundbreaking. The park will eventually have two new playgrounds, a rubber surface, and water fountains. Part of the money to pay for the project was raised by community members.A sign posted on the fence currently surrounding the park indicated that work would be done by Spring, 2019. It was previously reported that a source told 10News the contractor made a mistake while working on the park's draining system, which needed to be redone. But city officials say that's not the case.Alec Phillipp, a spokesperson with the City of San Diego, told 10News that the city may be responsible for the delay. The project had to be redesigned after discovering that the location of an existing underground draining system was not where crews anticipated. The city provided the plans to the contractor, which did not accurately map the draining system.Residents also cited other issues they have witnessed, including an accidental spill of sod for the park into the fence."I travel all over the world as part of my job and I get to see how construction is done," says McElroy.
