On Sunday, May 19, 2019 at approximately 3 a.m. LVMPD officers working at EDC observed from a distance an adult male, later identified as Elliott, push a security officer to the ground. Two officers approached and placed Elliott into handcuffs while they investigated the incident. SAN DIEGO (KGTV and CNS) — A felony assault charge with a hate crime allegation has been filed against a man who allegedly assaulted a 16-year-old Syrian refugee and used a racial epithet during the attack while the two rode a San Diego trolley.Adrian Vergara, 26, pleaded not guilty to the charge Thursday afternoon.Vergara hid from view Thursday with his head down, at one point standing on the table with his back to the judge. "The defendant started saying 'F***ing' Arabs, and he began assaulting the teenager while he sat on the trolley," said deputy district attorney Leonard Trinh. Trinh says Vergara hit the boy 5 to 6 times, causing minor injuries to below his eye. In 2013, Vergara completed an anger management program. In late 2016, documents show Vergara violated a restraining order against his ex-girlfriend, kicking her front door, texting her and in a phone call, cursing at her and saying, "if you don't talk to me I'm going to go to your job and cause a scene. I don't care about my life."Documents show he called her 20 times in 30 minutes.Court documents also show a carjacking charge at the beginning of 2017.Later in 2017, Vergara was charged for beating a man at the MTS Imperial Transit Center. (CNN) -- Don't worry too much about the two national turkeys chosen for presidential pardons this year.Not only is their salvation secured, but so's their retirement home.For the fourth straight year, the special pair will flock from the White House to enjoy their golden years at -- wait for it -- Gobblers Rest at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg."Virginia Tech has a long tradition of supporting the turkey industry through research and outreach, so it's fitting that the Presidential Turkeys becoming part of the Hokie Nation is a new tradition," said Rami Dalloul, a professor in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, in a statement. Dalloul is a poultry immunologist who sequenced the turkey genome.The National Thanksgiving Turkey and its alternate will join Peas and Carrots, last year's pardoned birds. (AP) — Authorities say divers have found the body of the last missing victim in a fatal boat fire that killed 34 people off the Southern California coast.The victim is one of 34 who died at sea last week near Santa Cruz Island. Five of the Conception's six crew members survived after multiple attempts to save the others who were trapped below deck.Authorities have said the victims, 21 women and 13 men from 16 to 62 years old, appear to have died from smoke inhalation. One of the victims was San Diegan Nicole Quitasol, a waitress at Nickey Rotten's in Coronado.The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office also said Wednesday on Twitter that authorities are still doing DNA testing to confirm the identities of seven of the victims. Lt. Erik Raney says salvage efforts to recover the Conception also resumed Wednesday.The FBI, Coast Guard and U.S. Attorney's Office in Los Angeles are conducting a criminal probe into the Sept. 2 tragedy.
