ANAHEIM, Calif. -- One-tenth of Disneyland employees have recently experienced homelessness while two-thirds of the park’s employees can’t afford three meals a day, according to a union-funded report.Disney officials slammed the report saying it’s politically motivated and that the document is skewed to reflect the position of unions. The report argues that 74 percent of workers at the park can’t pay for basic expenses each month. The report also claims that 85 percent of park employees are paid less than per hour.VIDEO: Disneyland animatronic loses head, scares riders"As Disneyland profits and prices hit record highs, Disneyland employees are falling farther behind," said Peter Dreier, a policy professor at Occidental and one of the report's authors."Disneyland wages aren't keeping up with rising rents in Southern California. Our survey found that homelessness and housing instability are so widespread that they have become a normal part of employees' lives at the park. Similarly, we found it's normal for Disneyland workers to skip meals in order to make ends meet."The report was based on a survey of 5,000 Disneyland employees. Disneyland has roughly 30,000 employees.RELATED: Disneyland raises price on tickets, annual passesDisney responded to the report with a statement of their own."This inaccurate and unscientific survey was paid for by politically motivated labor unions and its results are deliberately distorted and do not reflect how the overwhelming majority of our 30,000 cast members feel about the company," Disney spokeswoman Suzi Brown said. "While we recognize that socio-economic challenges exist for many people living in Southern California, we take pride in our employment experience," she said.Disney also said a majority of the park’s employees make more than minimum wage while entry-level positions range between and .75 per hour.UPDATE (March 2, 2018): Disney officials say the average salary for full-time, hourly employees at the park is ,000. 2016

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) says it screened more travelers on the day before Thanksgiving than any day since March 16, around the time the COVID-19 pandemic hit the U.S.TSA spokesperson Lisa Farbstein announced on Twitter Thursday that the administration screened 1,070,967 people at its checkpoints nationwide on Wednesday.“It's the highest volume since March 16 and only the 4th time passenger throughput has topped 1 million since that date,” wrote Farbstein.Still, air travel is significantly down, compared to in 2019. Last year, TSA says 2,602,631 people were screened on Thanksgiving eve. That’s more than double the amount screened this year.As coronavirus cases spike throughout the country, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is advising not to travel to visit loved ones this Thanksgiving. Officials want Americans to avoid spreading the coronavirus, especially to those most vulnerable, like the elderly.Instead, the CDC is suggesting that Americans should stay home and celebrate turkey day with the people they live with."Gatherings with family and friends who do not live with you can increase the chances of getting or spreading COVID-19 or the flu," the CDC says. 1245

American Airlines said Wednesday evening that it was moving ahead with furloughs for 19,000 employees as CARES Act stimulus funds expire. In a letter to employees, American Airlines CEO Doug Parker said the furloughs would begin Thursday."Despite enormous bipartisan support for an extension of the (Payroll Support Program), our elected officials have not been able to reach agreement on a COVID-19 relief package that would enable this extension," Parker wrote. "As a result, tomorrow, we will begin the difficult process of furloughing 19,000 of our hardworking and dedicated colleagues."Parker added that he spoke with Treasury Sec. Steve Mnuchin on Wednesday, who told him that the White House is continuing to negotiate with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on another COVID-19 stimulus package that would include further stimulus for the airline industry."Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that any of these efforts will come to fruition," Parker wrote. "However, in an effort to encourage cooperation and keep hope alive for our team, I informed the Secretary that if these efforts to extend PSP are successful over the next few days, we will reverse our furlough processes and recall any impacted team members."Past by Congress and signed into law by President Donald Trump in March, the CARES Act included billion in stimulus for the airline industry in March. However, payroll support included in that package expired Thursday, as did a provision that required airlines who took the funds to hold off on mass layoffs and furloughs. In August, Delta Airlines also warned employees that furloughs and layoffs might be on the way if lawmakers could not pass another COVID-19 stimulus package. United Airlines announced Monday that it had reached an agreement with pilots to avoid furloughs through June 2021, but that pilots had agreed to reduce their working hours.According to figures from the Transportation Security Administration, the agency is routinely screening more than a million fewer airline passengers every day than it would have at the same point a year ago — an indication that demand for air travel is still lagging amid the COVID-19 pandemic. 2175

An overnight desk employee working at the historic Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colo. won’t have any ghost sighting stories to tell family and friends – they’ll have something much better. That’s because that employee came face-to-face with a black bear while working the graveyard shift Wednesday evening into Thursday morning.Video obtained by Scripps affiliate in Denver KMGH-TV shows the unwanted guest wandering around the lobby of the Stanley Hotel, as if to make sure things at the hotel were running according to plan. ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Fernando Tatis Jr. homered twice, including a grand slam for his major league-leading 11th of the season, and the San Diego Padres routed the Texas Rangers 14-4 to stop a five-game losing streak.Tatis had a career-high seven RBIs, and the 21-year-old's first career slam pushed him past Mike Trout, who started the night with 10 homers. However, Tatis’ home run in the top of the eighth inning drew the ire of Rangers manager Chris Woodward. Already leading 10-3, Tatis stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and worked the count to 3-0. The shortstop crushed the next pitch to right field for his first career grand slam.According to Padres beat writer AJ Cassavell, Woodward said after the game: “There's a lot of unwritten rules that are constantly being challenged in today's game. I didn't like it, personally. You're up by seven in the eighth inning; it's typically not a good time to swing 3-0. It's kind of the way we were all raised in the game. But, like I said, the norms are being challenged on a daily basis, so -- just because I don't like it doesn't mean it's not right.”In response, Padres starter Zach Davies told Cassavell: “Make sure your 3-0 pitch is a little bit better.”Former Rangers top prospect Jurickson Profar took part in the Padres’ scoring spree with a two-run double in a five-run second inning.Jordan Lyles, a former Padre, took the loss. He has an 8.35 ERA in four Texas starts. 1447
