SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One person was killed after a vehicle drove off the State Route 54 connector to northbound Interstate 5 in the South Bay.The crash was reported just after 3 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. It wasn't immediately clear what prompted the vehicle to drive off the freeway connector.At least one person was killed in the crash. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are searching for the driver who struck a pedestrian with his vehicle before driving away in Hillcrest early Sunday morning. According to police, a 30-year-old man was crossing the street on the 1300 block of University when he was hit. Following the crash, the sedan fled the scene. The victim was taken to the hospital with a skull fracture and brain bleed. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 468

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Naval Medical Center San Diego has been selected as one of a handful of sites to participate in a coronavirus vaccine trial.The medical center will participate in phase III trials for vaccine candidate "AZD1222" developed by AstraZeneca, according to the Department of Defense. The trial is looking for participants who are at the greatest risk of the coronavirus, including:Working in an essential job, such as healthcare professions, emergency response personnel, grocery workers, meat-packing plants, restaurant staff, public transit, etc.;Living in densely populated residential environments;Living or working in congregated living facilities such as correctional facilities or nursing homes; and/orA member of a community that has been hardest hit by this pandemic, such as older persons, persons with underlying health conditions, and racial/ethnic groups such as African Americans, Latino, and Native American populations.RELATED: UCSD to participate in national COVID-19 clinical trial, looking for volunteersThe trial is part of Operation Warp Speed, which intends to have a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine and therapeutics by 2021. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- People throughout San Diego County are searching for answers after hearing a mysterious boom Wednesday afternoon. Dozens of San Diego Residents in La Jolla and Del Mar took to Twitter after hearing the noise before 12:45 p.m. "Felt it in La Jolla / Windansea - even my dogs started barking," one Twitter user said, referring to the noise. Several people wondered whether or not an earthquake could be to blame, but according to the United States Geological Survey, the nearest earthquake was a 2.9 magnitude near Corona reported at 4:16 a.m. Wednesday. USGS' website states that, "reports of a bang are a clue that it's a sonic boom, but not an ironclad indicator since shallow earthquakes often sound like booms or bangs."10News has reached out to military officials to see whether or not military exercises may have caused the boom.The Marine Corps, however, did send a statement that reads, in part: "While we are aware of media reports of a possible sonic boom, no 3rd MAW units have reported one in San Diego air space. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - New advertisements against Measure B riled up supporters, who spoke out against the massive development Friday.The commercial states, "Measure B the Newland Sierra project, is a luxury development," something supporters vehemently deny."What I think is disingenuous is making people feel fearful of what can happen in this development," supporter Melinda Vasquez said.Friday, dozens gathered in Kearny Mesa to advocate for Newland Sierra's development project. The group included teachers and firefighters who want more affordable home options in San Diego.RELATED: El Cajon takes risks to help lower cost of housing"Home ownership has become less of a reality for families like mine," Cindy Lopez said. She is a first generation American (her parents moved from Mexico) and a teacher. She teaches first- and second-graders, and comes home to a 12-month-old."Even though she's a toddler we're going to be expanding soon in the future and we're going to need that space, that affordable space to grow our family," Lopez said she is always budget conscious for her family.The county's existing general plan calls for 99 homes and up to 2,000,000 square feet of commercial property with open space.
