BEIJING, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) - While China disagrees with the so-called "Group of Two" (G2), its cooperation with the United States is indispensable for finding solutions to many problems of the world, said Vice Foreign Minister Cui Tiankai Friday.At the second Lanting Forum, Cui spoke highly of the cooperation the two countries have conducted and called for further coordination in more areas."Both China and the United States are countries of major influence on international affairs. The two countries have conducted effective consultation and coordination in dealing with regional conflicts, fighting against terrorism, maintaining the international nonproliferation mechanisms and coping with major international issues," Cui said.He said the two countries made important contributions to help the Asia-Pacific region and the world work their way out from the financial crisis. Their active coordination promoted the successful holding of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) high-level negotiations in Copenhagen and Cancun.The two countries also share same demands in maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and working for its denuclearization, Cui said, noting the two countries are negotiating with all parties to ease the situation.Saying no country could handle the emerging global challenges without effective international cooperation, the vice foreign minister said it is also a common will of international society that the two countries would join hands and make more contribution for the world's peace and common development.The Lanting Forum, initiated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is a platform for communication and exchanges between government, the business community, academia, media and the public.The Forum aims to create a new channel to facilitate discussions on foreign policies and issues of common interest by interested parties.The theme of the second Lanting Forum is "China-US Relations in the New Era."

BEIJING, Dec.23 (Xinhua) -- China is tightening regulation on foreign investment in the real estate sector to crack down on speculation, according to a statement from the Ministry of Commerce(MOC) on Thursday.The ministry urges local authorities to increase checks and supervision on property investment that involved foreign investors and strengthen risk controls on the sector, said the statement posted on the MOC web site.According to the statement, foreign-funded developers are not allowed to make profits through buying and reselling real estate projects, which will be strictly monitored by the MOC along with the Ministry of Land and Resources and the State Administration of Foreign Exchange.The ministry also required local authorities to tighten scrutiny over foreign-funded investment companies and not to allow those companies to enter the real estate businesses, while closely examining the exact amount of foreign funds used in new real estate projects.Foreign direct investment(FDI) into China's property sector jumped 48 percent to 20.1 billion U.S. dollars in the first eleven months of this year, compared to a 17.73 percent growth in the total FDI in the same period, according to earlier MOC data.China introduced a group of measures to crack down on property market speculation and rein in skyrocketing home prices since the beginning of this year, including prohibiting the issuance of mortgage loans for third home purchases and raising down-payments.The government is also guarding against possible "hot money" inflows that might complicate China's policy to fight inflation.Property prices in 70 major Chinese cities rose 0.3 percent in November, month on month, and 7.7 percent year on year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

BEIJING, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met with Chi Jae Ryong, Ambassador of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to China, and held phone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and ROK Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan on Friday.They exchanged views on issues including the situation of the Korean Peninsula, according to a statement released Friday night by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.Yang said China gives utmost attention to the exchange of fire between the DPRK and the ROK which happened days ago, and is very concerned about the development of the situation.The DPRK and the ROK should exercise calm and restraint, engage in contacts as soon as possible, and solve problems through negotiations and dialogue, Yang said."The pressing task now is to put the situation under control and prevent a recurrence of similar incidents," he said.Parties related should actively work for peace and facilitate talks, jointly safeguard peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula while adopting responsible attitudes, Yang said.Parties involved should work together for an early restart of the six-party talks, and push forward denuclearization process of the Korean Peninsula, Yang said.The DPRK, the ROK and the U.S. sides elaborated on their views on the current situation, and expressed the importance they attached to China's stance and their willingness to maintain contacts with the Chinese side.The ROK and the DPRK exchanged artillery fire Tuesday in waters off the west coast of the Korean Peninsula, leaving four people dead.China on Friday also voiced its opposition to any military acts in its exclusive economic zone without permission, days before a joint military exercise between United States and ROK on the Yellow Sea."We hold a consistent and clear-cut stance on the issue. BEIJING, Dec. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- Provincial level officials and ministers will be held more fiscally responsible under an expanded auditing system, the country's top auditor said on Thursday."The regulation will be significant in supervising officials' power use and corruption prevention," Liu Jiayi, head of the National Audit Office, was quoted as saying in an interview posted on the office's website.Under the regulation, released by the general offices of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the State Council, leaders of public institutions and State-owned enterprises will also be audited.China introduced the first such regulation in 1999, but it only included measures to audit financial records of county-level and below Party and government officials.The audit target was extended to provincial governors and ministers in 2000 on a trial basis and to heads of provincial government departments in 2005.Chinese auditors have uncovered more than 68.4 billion yuan (.2 billion) in illegal use of funds during nationwide audits of some 410,000 Party and government officials and bosses of State-owned enterprises since 1998, according to Liu.During the audit of provincial governors and ministers, their implementation of economic policies, handling of income and expenses, key fund management and project construction will be examined."They have power and control many resources, and how they fulfill their economic accountability will impact local economic and social development," he said.More importantly, the audit can be carried out frequently, so illegal activities can be cleared up before they spread, he said.Liu also said the audit will be made during an official's tenure to solve any problems that exist.Results of the audit will be recorded in an official's file and it will be an important factor in performance assessments, promotions or removal, and rewards or punishments.The audit group will consist of officials from local discipline inspection commissions and sectors including audit, supervision, organization, human resources and State asset supervision and management."It's a big step in cracking down on corruption.
