SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (AP) — An active-duty U.S. Air Force sergeant accused of killing a Northern California sheriff’s deputy in an ambush-style attack was a leader for a military base’s elite security force. Officials said Monday that Staff Sgt. Steven Carrillo was a team leader for the Phoenix Ravens that protects airfields at Travis Air Force Base. Carrillo has been arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting Santa Cruz sheriff’s sergeant Damon Gutzwiller on Saturday afternoon in Ben Lomond, an unincorporated area near Santa Cruz. (KGTV) - A Santee family believes their loved one was among the four people killed by mysterious blue pills last week. “That’s the biggest thing is, I’m pissed somebody is out there doing this,” said Dan Steele, the stepfather of Casey Force. Force, 39, said goodbye to his mother as she left for work Wednesday night. The next morning, Force’s three sons woke up and found him dead in his bed. Steele said the family hasn’t received an official cause of death, but deputies told him blue pills were found in the bedroom. Force was nine months sober from his alcohol addiction and appeared to be succeeding as a painter. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco police say they arrested a man suspected in the abduction of a ring-tailed lemur from the city’s zoo, where officials rewarded a 5-year-old boy who helped recapture the endangered primate with a lifetime membership. Police said Friday that a 30-year-old man was taken into custody in connection with the theft and will face charges in San Francisco. Zoo officials thanked authorities and the young boy who initially spotted the lemur wandering around the grounds of his preschool and alerted school officials, who called authorities. 576

(KGTV) -- A Santee business is empowering veterans to help heal themselves and become independent with yoga.The veterans behind the program say it’s a union of mind and body that can also lead to a paycheck. The business is called Hot Yoga and it’s located in Santee.The business was opened two years ago by Marine veteran John Szczepanowski. John is a combat veteran whose service spans decades including the Persian Gulf in 1989 and later in Iraq and Afghanistan.John retired from the military in 2014 and discovered yoga a year later thanks to a friend. John dove in and became certified as a yoga instructor.The practice was something he wanted to share with others, specifically infantry men and women and Navy corpsman who serve on the front lines.10News was able to capture a day of classes in which 1o active-duty military members took part.Those in attendance had the opportunity not only to see how it feels, but to explore a skill they may use to support themselves.John says if they choose, the veterans can apply for what he is calling a “Warrior Yoga Scholarship” which will provide them with tuition if they choose to become a certified yoga instructor.For more information click here.  1229
