PETERSBURG, Fla. — Rapper Lil Wayne has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, an offense that carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison.Documents filed Tuesday in Miami federal court say the rapper, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., had a gun and ammunition on Dec. 23 of last year despite knowing he had the previous felony.Authorities say Carter acknowledged owning the gold-plated handgun after his luggage was searched upon arriving in Miami on a private plane."Carter is charged with possessing a gold-plated handgun in his luggage on a private plane," Howard Srebnick, a lawyer for Lil Wayne, said in a statement. Several Kentucky teachers won't be going to work Friday after the state legislature approved changes to their pension on Thursday.Educators, who are furious over the pension issue, called out of work in protest. At least nine counties have canceled school, the Kentucky Democrats tweeted early Friday. Kentucky has 120 counties.The bill, which overhauls the state's pension, passed mostly on party lines and heads to Gov. Matt Bevin, who supports reforming the system. State leaders say it's critical to fix the pension crisis, which ranks as one of the worst in the US.Kentucky teachers have opposed changes to their pension, which was in Senate Bill 1 that proposed reducing benefits. 694

Some members of a large group of migrants who tried to rush the US border from Mexico, prompting the closure of a major border crossing in San Diego, will be deported to their home countries, according to Mexican authorities.About 500 migrants on the Mexican side of the border overwhelmed police blockades near the San Ysidro Port of Entry Sunday afternoon, two journalists at the scene in Tijuana told CNN.Tijuana police arrested 39 people in connection with the attempt to cross the border illegally, the agency said in a statement on Facebook.It said they would be reported to Mexican immigration authorities.Mexico's Interior Ministry earlier said those identified as having tried to cross would be processed for deportation to their home countries. 762

Severe weather brought heavy rain, hail and flash flooding to some parts of Maryland.  In Frederick, flood water was so high Tuesday night it covered the tires on cars. Some residents say Market Street was so flooded it looked like a river. Police sent alerts asking residents not to drive on the roads. Emergency crews rescued six people from three vehicles trapped in floodwater.  Click below to see storm pictures from across the state:Businesses in Frederick were also impacted by the storm. The basement of the YMCA on N. Market Street was completely flooded. The first floor had about four to five inches of water. Emergency crews pumped water from inside of the building to help drain it. The YMCA will be closed Wednesday.  So far, no injuries have been reported.   941
