CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A man wanted on suspicion of killing his wife Sunday is believed to be on the run in the San Diego area, police said.The suspect was identified as Francisco Uriarte, 37, who is suspected in the death of his wife at an apartment in the 500 block of Oxford Street, according to Lt. Dan Peak of the Chula Vista Police Department.Chula Vista police were called to the address at 1:38 a.m. Sunday after a report of a domestic violence in progress, Peak said."Upon arrival, officers located three children at the residence," Peak said. "Officers were told (by) the children their mother and father had been in a physical fight."The children also told officers their dad had fled the scene and believed he killed their mother during the fight," Peak said. "The children were not injured from the incident and are currently safe in protective custody."The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of her family, Peak said."Francisco should be considered armed and dangerous," Peak said. He was last seen wearing a large black overcoat, shorts and flip-flops, he said.The suspect is also believed to have significant injuries to his hands and may try to seek medical attention, Peak said.Uriarte is 5-feet-9-inches tall, 190 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes, Peak said. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Federal and local authorities, in addition to hazmat crews, were called out to the scene of a drug raid in Chula Vista after agents found fentanyl and THC extraction on the property. The raid happened at a home on 2nd Avenue Wednesday afternoon. DEA officials confirmed the search warrant was part of an ongoing investigation. DEA agents arrested one man during their search, and he is suspected of mixing fentanyl with other illegal drugs, according to a DEA spokesperson. Agents did not identify the man or disclose the amount of drugs found. The hazardous materials teams were summoned to the scene to investigate any possible contamination in the neighborhood and to process the drugs that were discovered. 747
CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- A nearly million dollar grant was recently awarded to the Chula Vista Elementary School District to focus on Science Technology Engineering and Math Programs.Some parents noticed the recipients of the grant were all schools in the east side of Chula Vista.“It’s not equal,” one dad told ABC 10News. He didn’t want to use his name, but both of his children attend a school on the west side of Chula Vista.“They need to find the exact same thing that covers the west side schools,” he said.The Military-Connected Student Academic and Support Program grant—which is 0,000—is a five-year commitment to STEM, according to a news release from the district.The schools that will be receiving that grant money included:- Enrique S. Camarena Elementary-Corky McMillin Elementary-Saburo Muraoka Elementary-Olympic View Elementary-Wolf Canyon ElementaryAll the schools are in the Otay Ranch area.Matthew Tessier, the Assistant Superintendent for Innovation and Instruction, said the schools were chosen based on the number of military families.“Part of the grant application is there needed to be 10 percent or higher military-connected children at the school and we picked our top five military-connected schools,” Tessier said. District spokesperson Anthony Millican said the requirement was set by the Department of Defense and no schools on the west side meet the requirement for the grant. There are 12 schools in the district that have more than 12 percent of enrollment identified as military-connected students, according to the district website.“We’re really cognizant of supporting our military-connected children because I think a lot of times we forget that they have a lot of unique needs… whether their parents are deployed, whether they have one parent leading a household for multiple months,” Tessier added.According to numbers given to ABC 10News by a district spokesperson, there are more than 1,000 military-connected students in the five schools that received the grant. 30 percent of Wolf Canyon’s population are military-connected students, which is the highest in the district.Camarena, Muraoka, and Olympic View all reported more than 20 percent of their students as military-connected. McMillin Elementary was at 19 percent.The school district’s project is calling “STEAMing into the Health Sciences.” The grant will allow participating schools to have the opportunity to attend the district’s Health Station, which is the latest in a series of hands-on learning stations creating with community partners.The participating schools will also have access to an online platform to introduce students to industry professionals, host weekly after-school STEM programs for select military-connected fourth graders, as well as provide a 1-week long summer camp for some military-connected students.Tessier said the Health Station experience will not be limited to the schools who received the grant. “We are committed—all means all. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — Surveillance video caught the moment a driver caused a fiery chain-reaction crash in a South Bay neighborhood.Chula Vista Police said five cars were involved in the crash at East Paisley Street and Monserate Avenue just after 6 p.m. Thursday. Five people were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.The crash started when a black truck hit a car, sending that vehicle into a parked car. The suspect of the black truck kept driving, hitting another car parked in a driveway that was being worked on by two people, knocking them unconscious. That car was sent into a nearby RV, injuring another person.Video from a resident's surveillance camera showed the truck send one man flying and the car into a concrete pillar, as it overturns and explodes into flames."I opened the door, and there was the car, it was on fire," said resident Priscilla Ramirez. "I'm still shaking from everything."Smoke and flames filled Ramirez's yard."I couldn't see my house, smoke and fire, smoke and fire all over my yard, couldn't see anything," Ramirez's brother, Adrian, said. "[Both men] were slurring and they were scared."The two suspects in the truck fled the scene, before later turning themselves in and receiving treatment for injuries at a hospital.The two suspects were arrested, but 10News is working to confirm what charges were filed against the pair. Then a "thank you" bonus.Now, Kroger employees will have to be satisfied with gradual increases in wages and benefits.CEO Rodney McMullen said Thursday that Kroger will not re-instate the popular hazard-pay benefits it announced in March and continued into June.This despite continued calls by union officials to bring back the -per-hour wage boost that Kroger and other grocery chains had been paying their essential workers.Kroger held its annual meeting Thursday, an event in which McMullen usually fields questions from local reporters. This year, McMullen agreed to talk by phone, saying that the company will see some permanent changes from the global pandemic that caused food shortages, surging revenue, binge buying and changes in consumer spending habits.Kroger's local employment increased 33% to 20,000 since the pandemic began, while the company hired 100,000 people nationwide.McMullen expects Kroger’s total employment — which peaked at 560,000 — to remain above 500,000 going forward. He also expects digital sales to remain at higher levels than the company achieved prior to COVID-19.And he believes the company will benefit from a permanent shift toward eating at home.“What we’re finding is people enjoy cooking more than they thought they would — at least, that’s what they’re telling us,” McMullen said. “They especially enjoy doing it with their kids, because it gives you a reason to spend time together. If your kids are happy, you’re happy.”McMullen also foresees a permanent shift towards higher wages, even if it doesn’t come in the form of hazard pay.“We had planned on incrementally investing 0 million a year in wages,” he said. “This year, that’ll end up being 0 million, and that’s brought our average hourly rate to higher than . When you include the value of our benefits, that takes it up north of an hour.”In October 2018, Kroger told Wall Street analysts its annual hourly wage was .47. We’re also continuing to invest aggressively in terms of safety and protection as we learn about it, providing masks for our associates and those things.”On the topic of wages, McMullen said Kroger will not join the ranks of companies cutting pay as one way of coping with coronavirus.“At this point, that is not something that we’ve talked about or evaluated,” he said. “It’s not something that would be high on our list of things to do.”Kroger is one of 19 local publicly traded companies that have not announced coronavirus pay cuts for executives.
