BEIJING, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- China and Venezuela Friday pledged to boost bilateral relations and cooperation.The pledge came out of a meeting between Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang and Venezuelan government delegation, which is in China for the ninth meeting of the China-Venezuela Senior Mixed Committee.Hailing the fast growth of China-Venezuela relations in recent years, Li said the two sides have enjoyed fruitful cooperation in areas including energy, agriculture, culture and infrastructure.Li noted that Venezuela has become one of China's most important trading and investment partners in Latin America.Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang (R front) meets with Jorge Giordani, chief delegate of a Venezuelan government delegation, which is in China for the ninth meeting of the China-Venezuela Senior Mixed Committee, in Beijing, capital of China, Dec. 3, 2010.He said strengthening cooperation between the two countries is not only beneficial for the two countries but also good for south-south cooperation and the overall strength of developing countries.China will conduct relations with Venezuela with a strategic point of view and promote pragmatic cooperation in all areas, Li said.He added that the mixed committee of senior officials from both sides can play an active role in this regard.The vice premier also extended his condolences to northern parts of Venezuela, which were hit by the recent flooding.He also announced, on behalf of the Chinese government, an emergency assistance package for Venezuela to help in the food relief work.Chief delegate Jorge Giordani, the Venezuelan minister of planning and finance, expressed Venezuela's gratitude for China's assistance.He also said Venezuela is satisfied with the two countries' expanding cooperation.He said Venezuela will continue to expand cooperation with China while taking the bilateral relationship to a new high.
WUHAN, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- The fire in a residential area in Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province, was put out Tuesday morning and no casualties were reported, local authorities said.The fire started at around 11 p.m. Monday from the first floor of a four-storey building in Qiaokou District, according to the city's fire control department.The building's first floor was a food market and more than 20 people lived upstairs. Most of them managed to escape after the fire started.More than 200 fire fighters had been dispatched to contain the blaze. Fire fighters rescued six from the building, including an old man and a child.The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
CAPE TOWN, South Africa, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping held talks with South African President Jacob Zuma here on Wednesday, calling for all-round cooperation and richer content of the comprehensive strategic partnership and strengthened coordination in international policies.During the talks, Xi first conveyed the warm greetings from Chinese President Hu Jintao to South African President Zuma.Xi hailed the Beijing Declaration on the Establishment of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership signed by the leaders of the two countries during Zuma's visit to China in August this year, saying that it has lifted China-South Africa relations to a new high and will guide the bilateral relations in the new era.Xi, who arrived here on Tuesday for a four-day official visit to South Africa, said the main purpose of his visit is to co-host with South African Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe the fourth plenary session of the China-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC).Xi said this plenary session marks a significant step in fulfilling the goals proposed by the two sides in the Beijing Declaration and BNC serves as an important platform to push forward bilateral cooperation in all areas and further implement the consensuses reached by the leaders of the two countries.He said China is willing to work together with South Africa to promote the all-round cooperation, hoping that the two sides will continue to maintain closer high-level political contacts, and further deepen pragmatic cooperation especially in the areas such as trade, economy, agricultural technology and professional training.China wishes to strengthen close coordination in key international issues with South Africa, said Xi. BANGKOK, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese military will adopt a more open and cooperative attitude when developing friendly ties with Thailand's armed forces, a senior Chinese defense official said Monday.Ma Xiaotian, deputy chief of the General Staff of the People's Liberation Army of China, made the pledge at the 9th Defence and Security Consultations between the Chinese and Thai Defence Ministries.Complex and profound changes are taking place in regional situations, said Ma. It is the responsibility of governments and armed forces in the region to enhance international cooperation, jointly cope with challenges, safeguard regional peace and stability to create favorable security conditions for common development, Ma said.The Chinese military is willing to boost in-depth, wide-ranging and all-dimensional ties with Thailand, building upon past achievements, Ma said.General Kittipong Keskowit, permanent secretary for defence of Thailand, hailed the long-lasting friendly cooperation between Thailand and China.He also expressed Thailand's willingness to continue carrying out close military exchanges and cooperation with China so as to contribute to the eternal friendship between the two countries and to the peace and stability of the region.During the event, Ma, on behalf of the Chinese military, donated 20 transport speedboats to Thailand to support its fight against the current floods.Ma arrived in Thailand on Saturday for a three-day visit at the invitation of the Thai Defence Ministry.
