Police in Ohio are looking for thieves who made away with massive amounts of candy at a Garfield Heights convenience store.According to detectives, a Cleveland-area Speedway convenience store has been robbed of tens of thousands of dollars in sweets.Garfield Heights Police said they have been working this case since June.“We're getting calls after the fact because when they're doing their inventory, then they're discovering the shortage,” said Detective Phillip Herron.The surveillance video shows the robber walking in, followed by several other people.“This guy’s got a bag, he's shoving all kinds of candy and there's a lot of people in that store, and not one person has called us, alerted us,” said Herron.The manage of the Speedway declined to comment on the robberies. Herron said the manager has also declined to speak to police.“As far as getting cooperation from employees in the store, we're not getting a lot of cooperation,” he said.So where is all this candy going? Herron said the robbers are most likely not eating it all, but reselling it.“Either take that candy and resell it to a store,” he said. “We got information from other cities that, some of these inner-city stores are buying the stolen candy for pennies on the dollar and they'll be able to resell it and make a bigger profit.”Back in July of 2016, thieves stole hundreds of dollars worth of candy at the Speedway in nearby Berea. Police in Middleburg Heights, another nearby Cleveland suburb, also confirmed a similar robbery earlier this year.The detective said the black market is becoming a bigger business on the streets. He said all the cases could possibly be linked.So far, Middleburg Heights said no arrests have been made in their case. Berea Police have not responded to requests for updates.  1854

PAPILLION, Nebraska — Papillion Police have arrested an 82-year-old man for third-degree sexual assault of a child and child abuse. According to police, there were several incidents in 2011 and 2012 involving a juvenile victim and Eugene Schneekloth. The alleged victim was helping out with Scheekloth's wife's in-home day care, Janet Schneekloth Day Care, which is now under investigation. Schneekloth will have his bond set this week in Sarpy County. 470

Philip Roth, a Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist who wrote about male lust, Jewish life and America, died Tuesday night at a hospital in New York.He was 85.Roth died of congestive heart failure surrounded by close friends and family, his friend Judith Thurman said. The people who visited him in his final days came from all walks of life, from writers and lifelong friends, to people he's helped and inspired along the way."He was an incredibly generous person. Police are looking for a man wanted for the disappearance and possible homicide in connection with a two-year-old near Bakersfield, California.Officers initiated an investigation into the disappearance of Ramon Angel Reyes-Chavez, 2, around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday night, police said.During the investigation, detectives developed information leading them to believe that Reyes-Chavez was the victim of a homicide.Detectives identified Kaleb Jordan Kessinger, 20, as a suspect in this case.They attempted to contact him when they saw him driving his car, but he took off about 10:45 p.m. Officers said he later crashed his car near Calloway Drive and Olive Drive.He was last seen running from the area.Officers were on scene in the Kern River Canyon, about three miles in near Democrat Boat Launch, regarding the investigation around 2 p.m. on Wednesday.Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Kessinger for charges which include homicide and felony child abuse.  Kessinger is described as 6'2", 198 lbs, with blonde hair and green eyes.Investigators said they are continuing their search for Ramon Reyes-Chavez and are asking the public to contact the Bakersfield Police Department (661) 327-7111 with any information regarding this case or the whereabouts of Reyes-Chavez or Kessinger.Kessinger was pulled over in 2016 for speeding and was suspected of driving under the influence. He had 6.4 nanograms of marijuana in his system while driving, according to the District Attorney's Office. The case went to trial and was convicted in Dec. 2016, sentenced to four days in prison and granted three years of probation.  1679

(KGTV) — One of the women killed last weekend in a double homicide at an Otay Mesa home has been identified as an educator of foster parents for more than two decades.Deb Stolz, 65, worked for Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District training foster parents for more than 20 years with the district's Foster, Adoptive & Kinship Care Education Program, according to the college district.She was one of the two women killed outside of an Otay Mesa home on Sunday. Her daughter, 37-year-old Elizabeth Stolz, was also shot and killed."Most likely, you wouldn’t have seen Deb on the Grossmont College campus because she spent her time training resource parents in the community. Deb played an integral role in the program through her training and support to countless resource parents for foster youth in San Diego County," a statement from the district read. "Barbara Wojtach, Program Manager for the program, described Deb as the 'Mother Teresa of foster care.' She was more than just a trainer for resource parents – she was a mentor, teacher and supporter for resource parents who were struggling with the challenges of foster care."The district says Stolz was a single parent of eight children, four of them through adoption."Grossmont College’s program for foster care education is responsible for training all the resource parents in San Diego County and is the largest of its kind in the state. Deb was an important part of that program and she will be deeply missed," Stolz said.Police say 31-year-old Justice Love Peace, also known as Jeremiah Alfred Horton, allegedly shot and killed Stolz and her daughter during a custody dispute at a home in the 4300 block of Ebersole Drive sometime around 8:30 a.m. on Sunday. He was reportedly there to pick up his 6-month-old son.Peace then took his son from the home. The boy was later found safe with Peace's wife at her Rolando-area home. Police say Peace fled to Mexico after the shooting, where he was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound days later. 2054
