South Carolina is in mourning after a sheriff's deputy died nearly three weeks after she was wounded in a standoff, the Florence County Sheriff's Office said.Deputy Farrah Turner, who passed away on Monday, was one of seven officers who were shot when authorities tried to serve a search warrant on Oct. 3.Another officer, Sgt. Terrence Carraway, was also killed when officials say 74-year-old Frederick Hopkins opened fire on them."Farrah was the ultimate professional, excelling at everything she did," Sheriff Kenney Boone said in a press release. Seven years ago, a Pasco County, Florida family was torn apart when an out of control driver ran down a group of girls, killing a 5-year-old triplet.Now that family is being tormented all over again.In the years since Delaney Rossman was killed, her surviving sisters have still managed to thrive.“The girls are really good. They are 13 now; very active in the community, doing everything they can to be normal kids,” mother Danielle Malm said.Malm said right after the crash, many well meaning people reached out offering support.“It was wonderful. The condolences, and we appreciated everything that everybody had to say.But one of them has crossed the line.“She’s threatened the girls," Malm said. "She’s threatened us with death. She’s threatened my nieces.”Under different Facebook profiles the person has sent disturbing messages to Danielle and her family.One says “Delaney is DEAD. Hahahah.”Another says “I’m going to harm your family.”Other messages are just too vulgar to show.“The main thing is she’s been fixated on the fact that Delaney died and Gabrielle lived.”Danielle says the person even contacted the girl’s school trying to get more personal information. Blocking the harasser isn’t helping, because the person creates fake profiles posing as family.They send friend requests to everyone on Malm’s list.The family believes the person lives out of the country, but isn’t sure. “It gnaws at you. Where is this woman at? Why is she fixated on us today? Why won’t she just let it go?” she said.Facebook says to report anyone whose behavior is abusive and change privacy settings.Law enforcement can subpoena Facebook to try and track down someone making threats, but they admit, if the person is out of the country, there’s not much they can do. 1794

SHEBOYGAN, Wisc. -- A Sheboygan dad was arrested for OWI after his two toddlers fell out of his van and were seriously injured.Police said it happened Tuesday just before 7:30 p.m. near 8th Street and Indiana Avenue. A witness told police the two children fell out of the van as it went through an intersection. Officers were eventually able to identify the children who were one and two years of age.A short time later police located their father -- who said he was not aware they had fallen out of the van.He was then arrested for OWI and Child Neglect.One child was treated and released from a local hospital. The other child was transported to a Milwaukee area hospital for serious but non-life threatening injuries.  764

Now, one lawmaker is fighting to make it illegal to report people simply based on race.It seems there’s a new viral incident, almost weekly. In April, a white Starbucks manager called police on two black males, who were waiting for their friend inside the Philadelphia store. The following month, a woman, dubbed BBQ Becky by the internet, called police on black men who were grilling in a park in Oakland, Calf. Then, there’s Permit Patty, who called to report a young black girl selling water without a permit on a San Francisco sidewalk.New York State Sen. Jesse Hamilton (D) proposed new legislation that would make calling police on law-abiding people of color a hate crime.  “We have to draw a line in the sand,” says Sen. Hamilton. “This is a phenomenon that's happening all throughout the country, where people are using the police as private security, to interrogate, to intimidate, to harass and humiliate.”Sen. Hamilton says it has even happened to him. He says a woman called police while he was campaigning in his own district, and all because she didn’t like his message.“I’m saying, no, that shouldn’t happen. No one should be interrogated or humiliated because of their color of their skin, political beliefs, sex orientation,” says Sen. Hamilton. “They should not be harassed like that.”The bill, if passed, would criminalize making police reports against people of color without evidence of malice. 1558
