IndyCar and NASCAR will both race this weekend without spectators over fears of the COVID-19 pandemic. IndyCar is scheduled to open its season Sunday on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida. Only essential personnel will be permitted to attend. Competitors will also undergo a questionnaire for health screening before entry. NASCAR will race this week at Atlanta and next week at Homestead-Miami Speedway under similar restrictions. Inside the Cocoa Beach, Florida restaurant Bacon and Blues, the music playing may be the blues, but the people are trying to remain upbeat and prepared. "Luckily, we have hurricane shutters; we've made a lot of ice," says owner Darci Kropp. She doesn't plan to close just yet. "We're kind of winging it,” Kropp says. "As long as we have employees here to work, we will work."Labor Day is usually a big day for business for this eatery. In fact, Kropp says this day last year was one of their best days. However, this year, Hurricane Dorian's threat is impacting business in this coastal beach town."It's a ghost town around here," Kropp describes. For the most part, only locals like Ken Holmes are still in Cocoa Beach. Depending on the forecast, even Holmes may leave to go to Tampa, but he is still holding on to hope. "We've never had a direct hit,” he says. “We've had a lot of close calls.”Kropp doesn't know what the storm will do to her restaurant in the coming days."We're just going to see how we make it and what's damaged," she says. "If we have power, how we hold up."Until then, the music and coffee will flow as long as it can. 1154

It seems like a new organic tampon company is breaking into the market every day. As far as medical research goes, there's mixed reviews on whether buying organic tampons, pads, and other hygiene products is the right thing to do. However, that hasn't stopped a lot of people from going organic anyways. Customer Jasmin Rosil said, "There is a huge movement for positive period conversation." Rosil is a buyer for the Turnip Truck, and she feels strongly that organic tampons are better."There has been a wide awareness of things like fiberglass in cotton tampons and pads which would otherwise aggravate the vaginal wall, it would actually make your period symptoms worse." Obviously companies dispute those findings, so we reached out to the medical experts at the Obstetrics & Gynecology office here in Nashville. They said they're excited that women now have more options, but so far, there's no medical research to say one way or the other if organic is better for your body.The trend, though, is still running strong.Rosil said after she began using the organic products, her cramps have lessened, and she feels better."A lot of the time we found that an organic options are just going to be a clean, simple, cotton product." While more research needs to be done, it's certainly a trend that's gained a lot of traction in the past few years. 1363

It took a few hours for the news to be released, but by all indications, Ryan Newman is okay. NASCAR officials said Newman had non life-threatening injuries following a horrific crash at the end of the Daytona 500 on Monday.Newman is in serious condition after being transported to the hospital. As Newman approached the finish line of the Daytona 500 on Monday, he was set to win his first Daytona 500 in 12 years. But a nudge from behind sent Newman into the wall as his competitors crossed the finish line. The crash allowed Denny Hamlin to win his second straight Daytona 500. As Hamlin celebrated the win, attention quickly turned to Newman, whose car spun out of control and burst into flames. After Newman's car struck the wall and flipped, it was then struck at full speed by Corey LaJoie's vehicle, causing Newman's car to flip again. Emergency crews raced to rescue Newman following the stunning crash.The celebration for Hamlin was subdued following the race."I think we take for granted sometimes how safe the cars are," Hamlin said. "But No. 1, we're praying for Ryan. Worked really well with Ryan through this whole race, and obviously he got turned right there."Ryan Blaney, who came in second place, described his view of the incident. "We pushed Newman there to the lead, and then we got a push from the 11 (Danny Hamlin's car), and I made a move off 4 (Kevin Harvick's car) on Newman and he blocked it and I kind of went low and he blocked that, so then I was committed to just pushing him to the win and trying to have a Ford win it, and I don't know, we just got bumpers hooked up wrong and turned him," Blaney said. "I hope he's all right. Looked pretty good. Definitely was trying to push him to a win. I don't want to say those things happen.
