SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Rallies were held in six different states in what organizers are calling "The March for Reparations to African people."Crowds gathered at the waterfront in downtown San Diego Saturday afternoon wearing masks with signs in hand.Among them was Wendy Craig, who is part of the UHURU Solidarity Movement, the group that organized the rally. Craig says they’re calling on people to do more acting and less talking. You have to take a material stand of solidarity and turn over the stolen resources."Craig says many people that registered to participate in this event also raised money towards a collective reparations goal. She says there’s been an increase in involvement this year, which she believes is attributed to current events. "Four years ago when we organized a march for reparations we did not have a lot of success. But that was shifted through the George Floyd protests, and Breonna Taylor. That shift has brought a lot of unity to what we’re doing," Craig said.Collectively, this organization had set a goal of raising ,000. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police are investigating what led to the death of a man while in police custody last week in Paradise Hills.Police said 39-year-old Guillermo Corrales was arrested on April 16 in the 6300 block of Clyde Ave. after reports of a relative becoming violent. Corrales had possibly used narcotics, according to police.Corrales was placed in handcuffs and medically evaluated by first responders.During the evaluation, Corrales went into cardiac arrest, according to police, and he was taken to a nearby hospital and placed on life support.He died from his injuries on Thursday.San Diego Police homicide detectives are investigating the incident as a possible custody death. 724

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police are investigating reports of a person being shot in the Mount Hope area Friday.San Diego Police said they were investigating reports that a 27-year-old Hispanic man showed up to Scripps Mercy Hospital with gunshot wounds just before 2 p.m. The man was rushed into surgery for life-threatening injuries.Soon after, police responded to the scene of 41st and C streets to investigate the location of the reported shooting.SDPD said based on the evidence gathered, the victim was in an altercation with man when gunshots rang out. The suspect they are searching for is a Hispanic male adult, approximately 29-30 years old who fled the area in a green pickup truck. He was last seen wearing a blue and yellow hat and a green jersey.The vehicle was last seen fleeing southbound on 41st St.SDPD Gang Detectives are investigating the shooting. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police are looking for more possible victims of a Balboa Park street performer suspected of multiple sexual assaults. Luis Martinez-Haaz, 22, was arrested May 3 in relation to several open cases from April, officers said.Police said Martinez-Haaz worked as a street performer and dancer in Balboa Park, and would often approach women after his shows. He convinced them to walk to isolated areas where he would sexually assault them, investigators said. San Diego Police Sex Crimes Unit detectives are searching for any additional victims or people with information related to the cases. Martinez-Haaz is 5’7” and 145 pounds with short brown wavy hair. Some of them say - it's likely a lack of light that emboldens criminals. Wednesday, those neighbors brought the issue up with at a Pacific Beach Planning Group meeting, and offered a unique solution.  "Quality of life crimes are going up."Marcella Teran would know. She's lived here in the area for 30 years."We live by the Pacific Beach library, and there's so much crime over there and drug dealing," she said. "I just didn't feel safe at all."A few houses down, up in a tree above the sidewalk, Teran's neighbor took matters into his own hands."They're LED, solar powered, and it's super bright," she said, pointing out the lights her neighbor put up in front of his home. The best part is, they aren't expensive.
