ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) — For Brian Masters, the prospect of owning two vintage John Deere tractors was an easy sell."I’ve always had an interest," Masters said of the tractors. And when his friend recently approached him to buy her two 1932 and 1946 model tractors, he jumped at the chance.After purchasing the tractors in July, he displayed them in his front yard with plans to have them running by this summer.But it wasn't until this month that he was slapped with a code enforcement violation by the City of Escondido."I parked them out there in late July and all of a sudden someone complained about me," Master said. "When I tried to talk to the enforcement officer, he just said they have to be out of public view."The code violation referenced "Sec. 33-96: Prohibited primary uses and structures" of the city code. The ordinance says, "All industrial, commercial and residential uses and structures not listed in this article are prohibited."Masters said he tried to speak with an enforcement officer about taking two weeks to move the machines, but was told he needed to move the tractors immediately — a tight timeline made all the more difficult when Masters believed his antiques were welcomed."At Halloween, we had a line of people posing and taking pictures with them," Masters said. "I don’t know who is complaining ... They were the centerpieces of our yard, it’s a little front yard."Masters said he is in the process of moving the classic tractors to his backyard. But in order to do so, he says he had to hack off a tree stump, modify his fence, and take down a portion of his yard's retaining yard to give the tractors enough room to be moved.10News has reached out to the City of Escondido for possible alternatives or a solution to Masters' violation, and have yet to hear back. 1815

(KGTV) -- The San Diego Children's Discovery Museum in Escondido has been quiet since mid-March, when they had to close their doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic."It's been hard, and in the beginning, it was very eerie," said museum Executive Director Wendy Taylor.Normally, the museum plays host to a few hundred visitors every day, and on a busy day, that number may reach as high as 500 guests.However, for the last four months, the museum has been nothing more than the sound of silence. In fact, over the last month, when other museums were allowed to reopen their doors, the Children's Discovery Museum did not."We don't really fall into the traditional museum category in terms of the reopening. Kids’ museums are specifically called out in the state guidelines as not being a traditional museum. So, in the guidelines for museums, it specifically calls out that interactive areas should remain closed,” Taylor said.Taylor told ABC 10News she's very proud of the way the museum has adjusted during these uncertain times. They've had to become more creative in all their activities, from camps to storytelling, and everything has gone online."Families really needed some support. They needed something regular and normal, that their kids could see and engage in,” said Taylor.Storytime has been very popular with the children, as the museum receives viewers from all over the world. The numbers have been so impressive, as they reach thousands of views per story."Typically, every story time reaches thousands of people during the course of the 24 hours that it is up,” Taylor said.The museum also had a virtual art contest where a winner was announced on Facebook Live. Facebook is trying to be more transparent about how it decides what content to take down or leave up.On Tuesday, the company is making public for the first time its detailed internal community standards policies.The document is what Facebook's 7,500 content moderators use when deciding what is and isn't acceptable content, including hate speech, nudity, gun sales and bullying. A shorter version was previously available online.Facebook is also adding a way for individuals to appeal when it removes one of their posts because of sexual content, hate speech or violence. Appeals will be reviewed by a moderator within a day, the company promises. Eventually, it will add appeals for more types of content and for people who reported posts that weren't taken down.Every week, Facebook sifts through millions of reports from users about inappropriate posts, groups or pages. Additional posts are also flagged by Facebook's automated systems. Bullying rules don't apply to comments made about public figures.The document is filled with striking details about very specific issues. For example, you can't post addresses or images of safe houses, or explicitly expose undercover law enforcement. You can only show victims of cannibalism if there's a warning screen and age requirement. ENCINITAS, Calif., (KGTV)— It has been almost three weeks since a fire destroyed several small shops in Encinitas. One of the business owners who lost it all is now getting a lot of support from his local community. In a blink of an eye, Greg Cali's life work was destroyed."One thing's for sure, it's been the most stressful period of my life," Cali said. His gallery was called "The Cali Life." It featured works by Cali and several other local artists. The blaze on September 30, 2019, burned it all to the ground. All except for one thing."The sign up over the building was the only thing I got," Cali said.That sign now has a new home inside of Pandora's Pizza restaurant."Art and pizza. Those are two of my favorite things on earth," he laughed. Two days before the fire, Cali sent out invitations to his gallery's one-year anniversary party. But with no gallery and no salvageable artwork, it was going to be canceled. That was, until Craig Leslie, Pandora's Pizza owner, reached out. Some of Cali's artwork was already hanging inside Pandora's Pizza, so Leslie offered to host the gallery party at the restaurant, located just two blocks away. "We're here to support him," Leslie said. "We're here to support other artists in the community. Let us know what you need, and I mean, we have a lot of walls!"Cali spent the last three weeks printing his collection, getting new pieces and organizing a silent auction. Instead of drowning himself in sorrow, he said his community is showering him with hope. Leslie even told Cali that he could use his upstairs loft as his gallery until he gets back on his feet. "My future, it looks really bright," Cali said. "There are ups and downs for sure, but I am 100 percent sure that you can turn bad things into positives.
