Thousands of Central American migrants fleeing poverty and violence packed a bridge connecting Guatemala and Mexico in sweltering heat Saturday as part of a politically charged, U.S.-bound caravan. At one point, several dozen migrants trying to make their way north sang the Honduran national anthem on the edge of the muddy Suchiate River between Tecun Uman, Guatemala, and Tapachula, Mexico.Their journey continued one day after defiant caravan members rushed passed border gates only to be stopped by rows of Mexican riot police who dispersed tear gas and smoke canisters into the crowds. The slow procession north has led President Donald Trump to threaten to cut aid to Central American nations and to send troops to the U.S. border if Mexico failed to stop the surge."Our message is we're not criminals," Honduran migrant Orlean Herrera said. "We're coming over here because we need a better life. That's why we're here." 933

There's a simple thing many of us having been missing during the pandemic that has a big impact on our health and well-being — hugs from our loved ones.A neuroscientist tells us many are dealing with what researchers call "skin hunger." It's a phenomenon where we can feel emotionally lost of something without physical contact.“And that which is missing is something that normally provides us with some contentment, some solace, some feeling that we're safe and that we're amongst others who we can rely on as a bio-behavioral resource,” said Emiliana Simon-Thomas, PhD, Science Director at the Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley.Simon-Thomas says hugs can help us communicate trust and support. She says even incidental moments of touch in the community, like brushing shoulders at a concert or giving someone a high-five, can help you feel reassurance.“I'm really worried about people who are absolutely alone,” she said. “I worry a lot about people who are ill and are in a situation where they're not allowed to be in company their loved ones.”For those people, she suggests focusing on a memory of the last time they hugged someone they love.It may sound odd, but some researchers also suggest hugging yourself.Touch is also associated with better heart health and higher levels of oxytocin in the brain. That's what helps us form bonds with other people. 1377

There’s a new way to take an Uber and as long as you don’t mind a little walking it’s the cheapest option.Express Pool is the latest option for taking an Uber. Once you plug in your location, the new option will pop up on the bottom far left of your screen.A quick trial test of Express Pool found the service to be a dollar cheaper than Uber Pool. However, you'll have to walk a block or two to be picked up by your driver. The logic behind the new service is to help Uber drivers be able to drive in a straight line to pick up pool passengers. That way, there are no out-of-the-way stops. However, it could mean for a slower pickup time. Also, with any Pool ride from Uber, you will most likely share the ride with other riders.Despite walking out of the way and waiting a bit longer, a test of Express Pool still got riders to their destinations on time.  894

Thursday marks National Coming Out Day — an LGBTQ holiday that encourages young queer people to be comfortable with their sexuality and live an open lifestyle.2018 marks the 30th anniversary of the first National Coming Out Day, first celebrated in 1988. According to the Human Rights Campaign, the day was started by gay activists Robert Eichberg and Jean O'Leary. Recognized by all 50 states, the day is celebrated each year on the anniversary of the Second National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights, which took place on Oct. 11, 1987.As a psychologist, Eichberg wrote extensively on the act of "coming out" to friends, family and coworkers. in 1978, he established "The Experience," a community workshop in Los Angeles that encouraged young  LGBTQ people to live an openly gay lifestyle among friends and family.According to Eichberg, when LGBTQ people lived an open lifestyle it made their friends and family more likely to be accepting of queer lifestyles. It also encourages other gay people to live openly and helps develop a support network for those who may be struggling with their sexual identities. The Human Rights Campaign has published a resource guide to coming out, which you can read below. They've spent weeks trekking across Mexico, trying to reach the United States. But dozens of migrants will be deported and will never touch US soil, Mexican authorities said.About 500 migrants on the Mexican side of the border overwhelmed police blockades near the San Ysidro Port of Entry on Sunday, two journalists in Tijuana told CNN. That forced a temporary closure of the major border crossing into San Diego.Tijuana police said they arrested 39 people Sunday in connection with the attempt to cross the border illegally. Those identified as trying to rush the US border illegally will be processed for deportation in their home countries, Mexico's Interior Ministry said.On the US side, about 42 people who managed to cross the border were arrested, said Rodney Scott, chief patrol agent of the San Diego Sector Border Patrol."Only eight of those were females, and there were only a few children involved," he said. "The vast majority of the people we're dealing with are adult males."US President Donald Trump threatened to close the border "permanently if need be." He also claimed many of the migrants are "stone cold criminals," but gave zero evidence to support that claim."Mexico should move the flag waving Migrants, many of whom are stone cold criminals, back to their countries," Trump tweeted Monday. "Do it by plane, do it by bus, do it anyway you want, but they are NOT coming into the U.S.A. We will close the Border permanently if need be. Congress, fund the WALL! 1491
