(KGTV) -- Chula Vista Police are searching for a suspect following a deadly stabbing in Chula Vista in mid-July.According to police, the stabbing happened on July 18 around 10:17 p.m. on the 200 block of Rancho Drive.Officers were called to the scene after receiving a report of a stabbing in the area. When police arrived, they found the victim, 23-year-old Ariel Burquez, suffering from multiple stab wounds. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.Police later determined that the victim and suspect, Raymond Lynde, 28, had an argument before Lynde reportedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Burquez several times.Chula Vista Police are currently trying to locate Lynde, who is on parole for an unrelated offense, police say.“A parole violation warrant has been issued for the murder of Burquez and Lynde should be considered armed and dangerous,” police said.Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477 or CVPD at 619-691-5151. 990

(KGTV) - Sweetwater Union High School District is trying to be proactive in the way it approaches teenage suicide.They'll hold an Open Forum to discuss the issue Thursday night, March 7, at Otay Ranch High School (1250 Olympic Parkway). The meeting starts at 6 pm."One life lost is one too many," says District Spokesperson Manny Rubio.According to the latest numbers from the San Diego County Suicide Prevention Council, suicides rose in 2017 after three years of holding steady. There were 458 deaths by suicide in 2017.The report also found that 14.5 percent of students had seriously considered suicide.Rubio says any time there is an incident with a Sweetwater student, they have crisis counselors and psychologists who go to campus. They also follow up with students in the ensuing months. But those are all reactive measures.To be more proactive, SUHSD officials asked students what issues they want to address concerning suicide. Among the responses were depression, social media pressure and bullying.The topics will be front and center of the public forum Thursday night."We want to make sure as we're going forward, that we're looking at what we can to better support our students," says Rubio. "This was one of the ideas. So let's talk about this in the open and let's talk about this publicly so that we can make sure that our students are feeling supported and feeling recognized."The event is open to the public. CHOLLAS VIEW (KGTV) - A short pursuit ended in a crash near Gompers Preparatory School Saturday night.The pursuit started around 6:45 p.m. at 4700 Castana Street in Chollas View, police said. The suspect was wanted for speeding when they took off. The pursuit ended a few minutes later when the suspect crashed less than a mile away into a railing at Gompers Preparatory School. The suspect was arrested. No one was injured. Gompers Preparatory School is a public charter school that operates in cooperation with the University of California, San Diego.   588

"It was known as the lemon capital of the world," says Chula Vista history librarian Tanya Carr. Lemons, oranges, and lots of celery once dominated Chula Vista’s landscape. That began to change in 1911 when Chula Vista was officially incorporated as a California city. Harry Orgovan is the president of the South Bay Historical Society and the Chula Vista Heritage Museum. "In a sense, life was simpler back then and more innocent," adds Orgovan. World War II brought an industrial revolution to Chula Vista. The Rohr Aircraft Corporation opened with as many as 11,000 employees building power units for the B-24 Liberator. (KGTV) - More than a dozen people were forced out their homes late Tuesday night after a driver crashed her car into a fire hydrant at an apartment complex in Chula Vista, causing water to be sent nearly 30 feet into the air.At around 11:45 p.m., Chula Vista police responded to reports of a geyser spewing water into the air on 3rd Avenue.The geyser, from a broken fire hydrant, flooded a nearby apartment complex, forcing the evacuation of 16 people from six units, four of which were heavily flooded.A black car that struck the hydrant tried to leave just after the wreck, but the car's female driver eventually came back to speak with officers. Police questioned the young driver, but she was released.City crews spent a few hours helping clear the water from the apartments. 807
