Danish inventor Peter Madsen has been found guilty of the mutilation and murder of Swedish journalist Kim Wall, and sentenced to life in prison.He was also found guilty of the indecent handling of a corpse and "sexual relations other than intercourse of a particularly dangerous nature," evidenced by stab wounds inside and outside Wall's genital area.Wall, a promising 30-year-old journalist, was last seen boarding Madsen's submarine in Copenhagen on August 10 last year when she had planned to interview him for an upcoming article.Instead she disappeared, her torso washed up on August 21 on an island near Copenhagen. Her head and legs were found weeks later.Madsen consistently denied charges of murder and sexual assault, claiming Wall died by accident from carbon dioxide poisoning, although he admitted to dismembering her body and tossing it into the sea in a state of panic.Asked on Monday if he wanted to make a last statement before the jury went into deliberation, he said, "If anything, I am sorry about what happened."  1048

Death row inmate, 61-year-old David Earl Miller will be executed tonight by the electric chair at 7 p.m. tonight.Miller is the second Tennessee death row inmate in just over a month to choose to die by the electric chair. His attorneys argued that the state's lethal injection method causes a prolonged and torturous death.Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam declined Miller's clemency application, in which his attorney claimed Miller had been suffering from “severe mental illness” at the time of his crime, and that his mental state places him “far outside that group of offenders who are the worst and for whom the death penalty is reserved.”Miller is also asking the U.S. Supreme Court to issue a stay of execution to address two separate legal issues. The high court declined to issue stays for either of the two other inmates executed this year.The inmate was moved to death watch Wednesday and served his requested last meal Thursday afternoon.Miller was convicted of killing 23-year-old Lee Standifer, who was mentally disabled, in Knoxville in 1981.A man Miller was living with found Standifer's body naked in the yard with her hands bound and roped wrapped around her body. DENVER, Colo. — When a Denver area woman received a voicemail from the Tri-County Health Department letting her know test results were in, she was puzzled because she did not have any recent medical tests. She called back and said an employee for the health department told her that she had tested positive for COVID-19. She replied that she had never been tested."Well, it definitely freaked me out, you know, because ... they had all of my personal information and then this positive test result," said Jessica.We're only using Jessica's first name because she's worried her personal information was compromised.“They knew my phone number, they knew my address, they knew my first and last name, but they had the birthday wrong," she said.She said the health department employee told her the test was administered at a NextCare facility. Jessica said she's been to the NextCare by her house before but it was sometime last year."There was nothing they could tell m — they couldn’t tell me which NextCare it was because that was confidential information and that basically there’s nothing they can do for me and that’s where we’re at now," said Jessica.KMGH reached out to the Tri-County Health Department. A spokesperson said NextCare made a COVID reporting error and said Jessica was never actually tested. (KGTV) — The Del Mar Fairgrounds may face increased pressure to stop the Crossroads of the West gun show from selling so-called 'ghost gun' kits at its show starting later this month.The Del Mar City Council on Monday will consider passing a resolution recommending the Del Mar Fairgrounds ask the show to prohibit its vendors from selling unregulated firearm parts, components and gun-build kids. The items do not have serial numbers and can be purchased at the show without a background check or registration.The Crossroads of the West Gun Show, which begins March 14, is likely in its final year at the state-owned fairgrounds. "Law enforcement Representative estimate there are several hundred thousand ghost guns nationwide, and that nearly half of all recent crime investigations in Southern California include untraceable firearms assembled from unregulated parts and components."In a statement, gun show president Tracy Olcott said so-called ghost guns are 100 percent legal and that building them is a hobby many enthusiasts enjoy. "These are gun parts kits that an individual can purchase and, after acquiring a serial number from the California Department of Justice, begin the process of assembling the kit," Olcott said. The Southern California ATF says untraceable guns make up 30 percent of the guns it buys undercover or are seizes. Additionally, the 16-year-old suspect in last year's Saugus High School shooting used a home-made gun. In California, those who build the guns from the kits are required to register them with the State Justice Department, and can go to jail if they don't. But Rose Ann Sharp, who heads the group Never Again CA, which has fought to end the Del Mar gun show, says that's not realistic."Do you think a 16-year-old is going to register the gun? Do you think a felon is going to register a gun? Do you think someone who is suicidal who is not going to pass a background check is going to register a gun? No," she said. But Danielle Jaymes, who heads sales at Poway Weapons and Gear range, said people who want to break the law will, no matter what. "If they aren't legally allowed to buy a gun in California and they go across state lines and buy an unfinished frame and then build up themselves, they're going to do it," she said. "They're always going to find a way around the laws in order to circumvent them."A spokeswoman for the Del Mar Fairgrounds did not immediately issue a statement on the proposed ordinance. 2729
