WASHINGTON, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao's upcoming visit to the United States is vital to pushing forward bilateral ties, Chinese Ambassador to the United States Zhang Yesui said Saturday.In an interview with Chinese journalists in Washington, Zhang said this year marks the 40th anniversary of the rapprochement between the two countries as well as the beginning of the second decade of the 21st century.Zhang noted that China-U.S. relationship is at a critical period, with two countries making strides in vigorously developing cooperation in various areas, while new challenges arise. At such a time, the visit of President Hu next week will be especially meaningful in pushing forward bilateral ties in the new era.China-U.S. relations have maintained general stability and achieved marked progress since the establishment of diplomatic ties, which has become one of the most important bilateral relations in the world, he said.The two countries have conducted constant communication and dialogues, maintained close economic and trade relations, witnessed frequent exchanges of personnel and enjoyed a wide range of cooperation fields. The two countries have far more common interests than disagreements, dialogue and cooperation is always the defining feature of this relationship, he added.Zhang said China and the United States have different domestic environment, social systems as well as historic and cultural identities. They are also at different stages of development. It is normal for the two sides to have different views and even divisions in certain issues.What is important is to take into account and respect each other's core interests and major concerns, and resolve differences through dialogue and negotiations, he saidAmid deepened globalization with more pressing global challenges,Zhang said, China-U.S. ties needed to be viewed in a new perspective. China-U.S. relationship is not a zero-sum game. ISLAMABAD, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and his Pakistani counterpart Yousuf Raza Gilani reached extensive consensus here Friday on further strengthening their countries' strategic cooperative partnership."China and Pakistan were, are and will always be good neighbors, good friends, good partners and good brothers," Wen said during his talks with Gilani, citing the profound friendship between the two peoples and the solid foundation of bilateral ties.In order to enhance communication and cooperation between the two "all-weather" strategic cooperative partners, Wen added, Beijing is ready to establish an annual conference mechanism between the two countries' leaders and a regular dialogue framework between their foreign ministers.China appreciates the strong support Pakistan has long been offering on issues concerning China's core interests, and will continue backing Pakistan's efforts in defending national sovereignty, maintaining social stability and achieving independent and sustainable economic development, Wen said.Noting that Pakistan has made huge sacrifice for and important contributions to the global counterterrorism campaign, the Chinese premier said his country is ready to work together with Pakistan to promote regional peace and stability.Meanwhile, a great potential is yet to be tapped in the two countries' practical cooperation, Wen stressed, saying that concerted efforts are needed in this regard to bring more benefits to the two peoples.In a three-point proposal, Wen prioritized the task to help Pakistan rebuild after its nationwide deadly flooding this summer, and pledged to offer assistance in road repair, food production and other relief programs if needed.Additionally, the two sides should consolidate cooperation in infrastructure construction and expand collaboration in trade, investment and financial sectors, Wen added.On the cultural sphere, he proposed to designate 2011 as the Year of China-Pakistan Friendship, co-sponsor activities to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, further broaden people-to-people exchanges, and thus promote mutual understanding and friendship between the two nations.Gilani, for his part, said that China is Pakistan's "best" and "most-trusted" friend, and that his country sincerely thanks China for its valuable support and generous aid.He expressed full agreement with Wen's proposal, saying that Pakistan is willing to join hands with China to beef up top-level contacts and strategic cooperation and pass on the two nations' friendship from generation to generation.The Pakistani side, Gilani said, is confident that with concerted efforts, the Pakistan-China all-weather strategic cooperative partnership will surely reach higher levels.Following their talks, the two leaders witnessed the signing of a number of documents on bilateral cooperation in economy, energy, finance, culture and other areas.Wen arrived here from India earlier in the day for a three-day visit to the South Asian country, where he is also scheduled to address a joint session of the Pakistani parliament and inaugurate the China-Pakistan Friendship Center, a project built to facilitate exchanges among the two countries' students, media and academic circles.

  

BEIJING, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) - China's priority in the public health sector will shift from prevention and control of communicable diseases to treating chronic diseases during the next five years.Li Bin, an official with the Ministry of Health, made the statement during a regular press conference at the ministry on Friday.Li said China had given priority to controlling communicable diseases during the 11th five year program (2006-2010), and the health authority will now focus on chronic diseases during the 12th five year program (2011-2015).According to statistics from the ministry, cardio-cerebral vascular disease has become the major threat to the health of the Chinese public. The incidence rate of chronic diseases in China has reached 20 percent, which meant 260 million people have been diagnosed as suffering from chronic diseases.It was also reported during the press conference that China had retrofitted toilets in 7.83 million rural households into more hygienic facilities as of the end of November this year.

  

VIENNA, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- A senior Chinese diplomat on Thursday urged relevant parties to step up diplomatic efforts to solve the Iranian nuclear issue."The Iranian nuclear issue is complicated and sensitive, therefore dialogues and negotiation are the only right way to solve the issue, " said Hu Xiaodi, China's permanent representative and ambassador to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna.Hu welcomed the forthcoming meeting between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany scheduled for next week in Geneva.The resumption of the talks would offer a new opportunity to promote the process of a diplomatic solution, Hu told a board meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).Hu noted that, as a party to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Iran enjoyed the right of peaceful use of nuclear energy and at the same time carried corresponding international obligations."We expect Iran to fully implement relevant resolutions of the Board and the Security Council and strengthen cooperation with the agency, so as to foster the confidence of the international community in the peaceful nature of its nuclear program, " he added.Hu also urged the IAEA to play a constructive role in implementing safeguards in Iran and promoting a proper solution to the Iranian nuclear issue.
