(Yes, you can turn it off if you are in a bus or a passenger). MetroUK has a good article explaining how this works.Do Not Disturb is just one of several new safety features, according to a good review in The Independent.Siri: The Siri voice assistant has too many improvements to list, but the biggest one is that she will do audio translations into French, Spanish and several other languages. This is a huge improvement for foreign travelers who don't know a word of their new country's language.Maps:  Maps now give more detailed information, and even speed limits of highways, as explained in a report in MacWorld.iPad: The iPad version now lets you easily run multiple screens and apps, making it look more like a Microsoft product (did I just say that?)The website TechDotMatrix lists a number of other good improvements with iOS 11.The BadOlder apps:  iOS 11 no longer supports older 32-bit apps, so if your favorite old app is not 64 bits, you will have to update or delete it.iPhone 5:  If you are still using a four- or five-year-old iPhone 5, you cannot download iOS 11 (here's a full list of devices that are compatible). It will work on the iPhone 5s, though some users report it slows the phone down. Gotta Be Mobile explains what to do if your battery is now running down fast. Apple forums are already filled with suggestions for improving battery life if this happens, such as shutting off automatic app refreshing.Not enough space: Also, keep in mind you need two?gigs of free space to install the update. If you have an older iPhone with lots of videos on it, you may have to delete some videos or music.One hour download: Anticipate the whole download, updating and installation to take an hour on average.Don't try to do it on the fly, like 20 minutes before an important meeting (as I tried to do, oops). Also, there is a 10-minute period late in the installation process where you cannot use your phone at all, as all you will see is a slow bar moving.So it is best to do the update at home, at night, when there is no urgency. Finally, you may want to have the phone plugged in during the update, or you'll be stunned how much battery power that one-hour process will take. I was down to 25 percent at the end of the update. Microsoft took legal steps to dismantle a system that has allowed criminal hackers to infect more than a million computing devices since 2016, in order to protect the 2020 election.The technology company obtained a court order from a federal judge in Virginia that gives Microsoft control of the Trickbot botnet.Microsoft, along with partners around the world, were able to make it so those operating Trickbot cannot initiate new infections or activate ransomware already in computer systems.Trickbot botnet is a global network believed to be run by Russian-speaking criminals, and is “one of the world’s most infamous botnets and prolific distributors of ransomware” according to a blog post by Tom Burt, Corporate Vice President at Microsoft.Burt says ransomware is “one of the largest threats to the upcoming elections,” and can be used to “infect a computer system used to maintain voter rolls or report on election-night results, seizing those systems at a prescribed hour optimised to sow chaos and distrust.”The move by Microsoft represents a “new legal approach” the company says they are using for the first time.In addition to protecting election systems, Microsoft says dismantling Trickbot will also protect financial services institutions, government agencies, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and other businesses subject to malware infections. 1382

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A third person who served on the grand jury that weighed charges against the police officers involved in the raid that led to the death of Breonna Taylor says she felt the investigation was incomplete.In an interview with The Associated Press, the woman said she thought prosecutors wanted only to give the officers involved "a slap on the wrist and close it up.""I felt like there should've been more charges," she told the AP in a phone interview.Taylor was killed on March 13 when officers conducted a narcotics raid on her apartment. Taylor's boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, said he drew a gun when he heard a pounding at the door. He maintains officers did not identify themselves and says he fired at officers when they breached the door, thinking they were intruders.Officers returned fire, killing Taylor. Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron, who investigated the case, said officers were justified in returning fire because they were fired upon first.While officers say they did identify themselves as police and say a witness in the building also testified that they heard police ID themselves, several of Taylor's neighbors are on record as saying they did not know who was at the door.One officer, Brett Hankison, was charged with a crime in connection with the incident. He faces three counts of wanton endangerment for firing his gun toward the apartment building following the raid. No officers faced charges in connection with Taylor's homicide."All of (the officers) went in blindly, you really couldn't see into that lady's apartment as they explained to us, there was just a TV on," the grand juror told the AP of Taylor's apartment.
