He said Acosta had spent some time in jail, but that has not been confirmed by authorities.---------------------A 25-year-old Arizona man who was driving a San Diego-area woman's car is accused of fatally stabbing her after the vehicle veered off a freeway and crashed Friday morning.Fernando Acosta of Phoenix got out of the car and accosted a witness with a knife before repeatedly stabbing Martha Thy of Spring Valley, California, along the Loop 101 freeway in Peoria, according to an Arizona Department of Public Safety probable-cause statement released Saturday.Thy was stabbed while she was still inside the white Lexus sedan and then while on her knees on the ground outside it after she crawled out and closed a door behind her. Acosta initially was in the driver's seat when he began stabbing Thy, who was seated in the passenger seat, the statement said.He then got out of the driver's side of the vehicle, going around to the passenger's side and resuming stabbing Thy before returning to the driver's side when she attempted to get away, the statement said.Thy died at a hospital. The statement said she was stabbed or cut at least 20 times.Several bystanders got out of their vehicles and tried to stop Acosta from attacking the woman.Gustavo Mu?oz was one of those bystanders. When he saw the crash, he immediately pulled over and jumped out of his car to help.“I ran towards the vehicle, and when I got to the other side of the ditch the man comes out with a knife. Hands full of blood. [His] face, body was filled with blood,” said Mu?oz.Mu?oz says he yelled for other drivers who stopped to help.“The guys that were there, they got their gun so we could try to scare him,” Mu?oz said. "One man fired shots at the ground to see if he would drop the knife and stop stabbing the lady that was in the vehicle.”Mu?oz told ABC15 that eventually one man ran and tackled the suspect and knocked the knife from his hands. People in Boston came together Sunday to run a course that spelled out the city's name, five years after deadly bomb blasts went off during the Boston Marathon.The city's triathlon team, Zoom Multisport, began what they call the #BostonRun two weeks after the 2013 bombings, said Greg Soutiea, one of the organizers. Several members of the club were stopped short of finishing the race or, for the ones who did finish, they were still downtown when the bombs exploded."A lot of people on our team needed closure," Soutiea said. "It was a way for our team to come together ... and support each other."Between 10 and 15 people ran that first year, he said; this year, about 150 people participated."We were all affected by the tragic events that occurred on a day that has always been so special to us," the club said on Instagram. PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — An elementary school principal was arrested on Thursday for allegedly stealing 0 from a 9-year-old child.Pasco County deputies arrested Connerton Elementary School principal Edward John Abernathy.The Sheriff's Office say that on Oct. 23, the 9-year-old student, who is mentally handicapped brought some of his parents' money to school. When teachers realized how much money the child had, they took the money, counted it and put it in the principal's office.When the mother of the child went to school to get the money, deputies say the principal gave her only ,200 not the ,100 her child had brought to school."Subsequent investigation by deputies determined the principal kept the 0 difference," the Pasco County Sheriff's Office wrote in a press release.Deputies booked the 50-year-old Abernathy into the Pasco County Jail on one charge of grand theft.Officials with Pasco County Schools say that Abernathy will be placed on administrative leave as they investigate. 1048

Police are investigating a car crash that killed a zebra in Chandler, Arizona on Wednesday morning.Several area residents posted in a neighborhood Facebook group about the crash around 6 a.m. local time, including rumors that the animal may have escaped from the Ostrich Festival grounds nearby. Chandler Police confirmed that a vehicle struck a zebra. They say the zebra, who was from the Ostrich Festival, was killed in the crash. The driver suffered minor injuries. Scripps station KNXV in Phoenix on the scene caught crews towing away a white SUV with front-end damage. A zebra was also spotted in a pen with ostriches on a property off the road, but it appeared to be uninjured.  712
