CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Police are searching for the suspects accused of stabbing a 15-year-old to death as he tried to defend his friend at a Chula Vista birthday party in late January. According to police, the stabbing took place on January 31 on the 900 block of Maria Way in Chula Vista. Police say an argument broke out between two teenagers. The argument later turned physical and, as the 15-year-old -- identified by friends as Devin Griffiths -- tried to help a friend being attacked by several men, he was stabbed in the upper body, according to police. According to police, he “passed away with his family at his side.”Police say the suspect group is believed to consist of eight to 15 men and women between the ages of 17 and 20. CINCINNATI -- A Lebanon Correctional Institution inmate was sentenced to three years in federal prison for mailing threatening letters to President Donald Trump and other federal officials, authorities announced Monday.Rodney D. Cydrus, 48, mailed a total of five letters in January 2017 to the FBI and Federal Public Defender's Office threatening to injure them, federal judges and the president, according to court documents.In one letter, Cydrus wrote that he wanted to "go out with a bang" by killing or kidnapping a federal agent."As soon as I get out I’m going to get everybody I can in your office…Die Die Die…I promise my word I’ll get at least 30 of you before you kill me," one letter states.One letter also included a powder that turned out to be Cydrus' own medication, causing a HAZMAT response. "The federal officials whom Cydrus targeted have hard enough jobs as it is," U.S. Attorney Benjamin Glassman said in a news release. "Disrupting operations and creating an atmosphere of fear is a serious offense, and it’s important to deter this kind of intimidation campaign."Cydrus was an inmate at Lebanon Correctional Institution in Warren County at the time he sent the letters.A federal grand jury indicted Cydrus in February 2017. "I thought it was like one of the best things ever I wish I had a drag queen story time when I was younger," said "Strawberry Corncakes", a local artist who isn't taking part in the upcoming event, but understands very well why performers like her are striking a chord with families and kids across the country. "We're characters, we're cartoon characters brought to life. Who walks around with green eyes and green lips?" Along with the popularity though has come controversy. Pastor Amado Huizar is a father of four and says he's heard the events aren't just about reading books. "Teaching more about drag queens and what that's about which tends to lead to adult entertainment and that's where I think it's inappropriate as a dad as a husband."But the performers themselves say that's just not true. "There's no hidden agenda, we're not teaching them how to be drag queens we're not teaching them how to do anything except love themselves and read," said Corncakes. Huizar is trying to get the city leaders to talk to him and others and postpone the event in the meantime. And while opponents admit the event is optional, they have an issue with it being held at a public library. "I don't have to go but that doesn't mean I have to keep away from it either," said Huizar.
