JULIAN (CNS) - A motorcyclist was killed in a crash near Julian on Saturday.California Highway Patrol officers headed to state Route 79 near Sunrise Highway about 1:50 p.m. for a report that a Toyota 4Runner had struck a motorcycle and pinned the rider underneath the vehicle, according to a CHP incident log.The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Cal Fire San Diego. No identifying information on the victim was available.One-way traffic control was in place while authorities investigated and worked to clean up the crash, according to the CHP. 579

KGTV - Two young girls were found safe after an AMBER Alert was issued Saturday evening, and the suspect is in custody, California Highway Patrol confirmed.An AMBER Alert was issued around 7:15 p.m. Saturday evening for a 2014 black and purple Dodge Challenger, California license plate 7WKZ957.The suspect, Anthony Lee Gaines, 29, called police himself after the AMBER Alert was issued, Los Angeles Police said.The girls, ages five and seven, were at their grandmother's house with the suspect, police said.This is a developing story. KEARNY MESA (CNS) - Four men were wanted for robbing a convenience store in Kearny Mesa Sunday, police said.A clerk at the Circle K on Balboa Avenue just east of Interstate 805 was working by herself around 8:45 a.m. Sunday when four men came into the store, looked around and left without making a purchase, San Diego police Officer Robert Heims said.The four returned about eight minutes later, and one of them pointed a knife at the clerk's abdomen and demanded cigarettes, Heims said. The woman complied, and the men took multiple packs of cigarettes and cigars. The total amount of property stolen was not known, according to Heims.The suspects, all men in their early 20s, were described as:-- 5-feet-7-inches tall, about 160 pounds with black hair and green eyes, wearing a black hoodie with white strings and black pajama pants;-- 5-feet-3-inches tall, heavyset with black hair, wearing a black hoodie with white strings and black pajama pants;-- 5-feet-2-inches tall, about 115 pounds with black hair, also wearing a black hoodie with white strings and black pajama pants;-- and a man of unknown height, with black hair wearing a black and red leather jacket.Robbery detectives were investigating the incident. 1227

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Inside Super Food and Brew, it’s been a brutal few months of business, ever since the coronavirus pandemic began.“We did have to reduce the staff quite a bit,” said Al Penttila, Super Food and Brew’s general manager. “Basically, it was a struggle for them for the beginning of it.”Surviving mainly on take-out and delivery orders, news that the Republican National Convention would be coming to Jacksonville came as a welcome relief.“The arena is about three blocks from here so we're hoping and we're expecting a lot of foot traffic,” Penttila said.The RNC estimates about 50,000 people will make their way to Jacksonville for the convention and potentially bring in more than 0 million to the local economy. Yet, there are some concerns about what else it might bring, one of which revolves around the potential for protests during the convention.“I hope it doesn't get out of hand,” Penttila said. “I know they're taking precautions.”The city’s Republican mayor said there will be plenty of security in place.“Peaceful protests are a right and here in Jacksonville we honor and respect that right,” said Mayor Lenny Curry, R-Jacksonville. “There will be additional resources in our city that will be subsidized by the federal government.”Then, there’s the ever-lurking specter of COVID-19. This week, Florida saw its biggest one-day jump in cases: more than 2,800.“A convention is a super spreader event and the possibilities, if you're a gambling person, the possibilities, the odds will be in your favor that you could possibly be exposed,” said Dr. Doreen Perez, with the University of North Florida’s Brooks College of Health.She said, without precautions, conventions of any kind can potentially spread the coronavirus to many people, who could end up taking it home to their communities.“Especially when they're coming from different all points of the nation,” Dr. Perez said.Her advice for attendees: social distance, wash your hands and wear a mask.“It's been proven that it works,” she said.Back at Super Food and Brew, there is little fear and a lot of hope.“I think the economic benefit of the RNC coming here will outweigh anything,” Penttila said.It is something the city will know one way or another by the last week of August. JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK (KGTV) -- After four days alone in the desert, Paul Hanks was found injured - but alive - Thursday night. The 54-year-old went missing while hiking the Maze Loop on Sunday, March 11, The High Desert Star reports. He left San Diego on Sunday, but never checked into his hotel. The Maze Loop is the same trail where the bodies of Rachel Nguyen and Josseph Orbeso were found near last October, nearly three months after they were reported missing in July. RELATED: Missing couple in Joshua Tree National Park died in murder-suicideHanks' pickup truck was found in the same parking lot as Nguyen and Orbeso. Just after 4 p.m. Thursday a member of the Joshua Park Search and Rescue team located Hanks, Gerorge Land, the park's public information officer said in a Facebook video. "It appears he fell about 20 feet," Land said. "He sustained some head injuries, we don't know the exact nature of all of his injuries...but he was conscious, he was talking to rescuers."10News is working to learn more about Hanks' current condition.
