BEIJING, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese leader Li Changchun urged promoting innovation, communication and the influence of Chinese culture with advanced technology on Monday.Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, made the remarks during his visit to the Beijing International Radio, TV and Film Equipment Exhibition (BIRTV).Li also called for efforts to better integrate culture and technology.Li reviewed some new achievements of communication technology innovation on display. He urged businesses to strengthen independent technological innovations to adapt China's Radio and TV communications technology to the digital and internet age.Also, improved integrity of culture and technology would help to promote the competitiveness of Chinese culture and enterprises in the cultural sector should promote the technical element in their products with improved equipment and proprietary intellectual property rights of key technologies, Li said.Further, advanced technology should be employed to promote both the emerging cultural sector and traditional sector, Li said.The BIRTV exhibition is sponsored by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television. BEIJING, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- A total of 600 soldiers with the Lanzhou Military Area Command have arrived at mudslides-devastated Zhouqu county in northwest China's Gansu Province, and started relief work.Three other detachments consisting of more than 1,700 soldiers with the command as well as a 180-member medical team are on their way to the affected areas.Six helicopters, including four from the Lanzhou command and two from the Xinjiang Military Area Command, have also departed for the affected areas.China's armed police have also sent 2,100 members to help with the relief work, with 740 of them having arrived at the scene.

GUANLING, Guizhou, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Rescuers have recovered eight bodies from the ruins of a southwest China village, two days after a devastating rain-triggered landslide destroyed 37 houses and buried 99 villagers under mud, authorities said Wednesday.As of 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, 91 residents of Dazhai Village, Guanling County, Guizhou Province, remained missing, said officials at the rescue headquarters.From 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday the bodies of three buried villagers were recovered, bringing the confirmed death toll to eight, said the officials.A total of 26 heavy backhoes had removed 100,000 cubic meters of clay. Some 2,000 people took part in the rescue work, said Pu Jianjiang, head of the provincial work safety bureau.The landslide brought down about 1.5 to 2 million cubic meters of mud, which was unstable and likely to trigger additional landslides, said Yin Yueping, a researcher with the Ministry of Land and Resources.The landslide struck 37 homes in Dazhai Village at 2:30 p.m. Monday.At least 1,000 villagers who lived in the area have since been evacuated.
