Fentanyl is now the most commonly used drug involved in drug overdoses, according to a new government report. The latest numbers from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Health Statistics say that the rate of drug overdoses involving the synthetic opioid skyrocketed by about 113% each year from 2013 through 2016.The number of total drug overdoses jumped 54% each year between 2011 and 2016. In 2016, there were 63,632 drug overdose deaths.According to Wednesday's report, which analyzed death certificates for drug overdose deaths between 2011 and 2016, fentanyl was involved in nearly 29% of all overdose deaths in 2016. In 2011, fentanyl was involved in just 4% of all drug fatalities. At the time, oxycodone was the most commonly involved drug, representing 13% of all fatal drug overdoses.From 2012 to 2015, heroin became the most frequently involved drug in overdose deaths. In 2011, the number of fatal heroin overdoses was 4,571, or 11% of all drug fatalities. In 2016, that number more than tripled to 15,961 deaths, representing a quarter of all drug overdoses that year.The authors of the new study also found that most overdoses involved more than one drug. In 2016, 2 in 5 cocaine-related overdose deaths also involved fentanyl. Nearly one-third of fentanyl-related overdoses also involved heroin. Former Gov. Deval Patrick has decided not to run for president and plans to announce his decision soon, a source close to the Massachusetts Democrat tells CNN.Patrick, a two-term governor and close ally to former President Barack Obama, had been considering a 2020 run after entering the private sector and taking a job at Bain Capital in 2015. He had upped his political involvement ahead of the 2018 midterms -- endorsing candidates in South Carolina, Texas, New Jersey and a handful of other states -- leading many to believe he was going to jump into the race.Patrick, despite the speculation that he was going to run, had repeatedly acknowledged the enormity of the decision."It's on my radar screen," Patrick told a public radio station in Kansas City during the midterms, adding that "it's a huge decision.""I am trying to think through 2020," Patrick said. "And that's a decision I'm trying to think through from a personal and family point of view."Patrick also expressed concerns about standing out in what is expected to be a wide-open Democratic field."It's hard to see how you even get noticed in such a big, broad field without being shrill, sensational or a celebrity," Patrick told David Axelrod, a former top Obama adviser, in September. Frank Avruch, who was best known for playing Bozo the Clown, died Tuesday at the age of 89, according to his manager Stuart Hersh."While it's hard to say goodbye, we celebrate the legacy of joy and laughter he brought to millions of children around the world as Bozo the Clown on TV and as a UNICEF Ambassador and later as host of Channel 5's Great Entertainment and Boston's Man About Town," a statement from Avruch's family read. "Our dad loved the children of all ages who remembered being on his show and was always grateful for their kind words. We will miss him greatly."Bozo made his television debut in 1949, portrayed by Pinto Colvig. In 1965, "Bozo's Big Top" became a syndicated series in local markets across the country.Avruch played Bozo from 1959 to 1970 and was the first nationally syndicated version of the clown. Other performers of the popular character were Willard Scott, Bob Bell and Joey D'Auria.Avruch worked at WCVB in Boston for more than 40 years and was inducted into the National Television Academy's Gold Circle."He had a heart of gold," Hersh said in a statement to CNN. Former ESPN president John Skipper says he abruptly resigned from the network late last year because he was being extorted by a cocaine dealer.In an in-depth interview with The Hollywood Report's James Andrew Miller, Skipper recounted his substance abuse issues and the decision to leave the network.Skipper told Miller that he used cocaine intermittently throughout his professional life. He says the habit began before he joined ESPN in 1997, but maintained that his drug use never interfered with his work, outside of "a missed plane and a few canceled morning appointments."Skipper also said he was "unusually clever" in finding ways to buy cocaine so as not to attract attention to himself. That changed in December, when he says someone he had not dealt with before attempted to extort him for purchasing drugs."It turned out I wasn’t careful this time," Skipper told Miller.Skipper immediately informed Disney CEO Bob Iger of the threat."When I discussed it with Bob, he and I agreed that I had placed the company in an untenable position and as a result, I should resign," Skipper told Miller.On Dec. 18, Skipper shocked ESPN employees by announcing his resignation, citing substance abuse issues.
