In New York City, it easy to hear the present. But to hear the past, you’ll have to step into Rick Kelly’s shop. “Just celebrated 50 years of guitar making,” Kelly says. “1968. I started that. Was the first one I made in high school.” What sets Kelly’s craft apart from other guitar makers is the material he uses.“If you start with really old materials, you're going to have a better instrument,” he explains. The pieces were once part of the deep roots of Manhattan. “Using New York City wood from these old buildings,” Kelly says. “I call it the bones of old New York, because it's the bones of these old buildings from the 1800's down here.” The guitars are handmade of hand-picked scraps of old pine. “We actually have the largest depository of old pine in the world right here in New York City,” Kelly says. All of the building bones is transformed into detailed pieces of playable art. “You can kind of just smell the history back here,” says customer Kelly Wilson. 985
The father of New England Patriots running back James White was killed in a crash Sunday afternoon in South Florida, hours before his team's appearance on NBC's "Sunday Night Football."Broward Sheriff's Office Sgt. Donald Prichard said Miami-Dade police Capt. Tyrone White was killed in a two-vehicle crash about 1 p.m. along Griffin Road in Cooper City. Prichard said one vehicle overturned and the other caught fire. Two of the three victims were flown to a hospital for medical treatment, but the elder White was pronounced dead at the scene. I offered his family my deepest condolences on behalf of his MDPD family. May he rest in eternal peace. 1/2....— Alfredo "Freddy" Ramirez III (@MDPD_Director) September 20, 2020 He was the father of James White, a fourth-round draft pick of the Patriots in 2014. MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The former Minneapolis police officer seen kneeling on George Floyd’s neck before his death has now been charged with the man's murder. Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Friday afternoon that ex-officer Derek Chauvin has been taken into custody and charged with 3rd degree murder, as well as manslaughter.Watch Freeman announce the charges against Chauvin in the press conference below:Chauvin is one of four officers who have been fired from the Minneapolis Police Department for their alleged role in Floyd’s death. Freeman said he expects charges to be filed against the other officers as well, but his team felt it was "appropriate to focus on the most dangerous perpetrator." Chauvin’s arrest comes less than a day after Freeman and other officials asked the public to give them time to make a charging decision in the case. During the Thursday press conference, Freeman actually told reporters, “There is other evidence that doesn’t support a criminal charge.” Now, Freeman says his team has enough evidence to charge.“We have now been able to put together the evidence that we need. Even as late as yesterday afternoon, we didn’t have all that we needed. We have now found it and have felt a responsibility to charge this as soon as possible," Freeman said Friday.Below is the criminal complaint filed against Chauvin: 1376
The Federal Trade Commission said Americans should be wary if they receive a phone call regarding their stimulus check. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the US government issued ,200 checks to millions of Americans with a number of businesses closed. The FTC is warning that scammers could potentially try to trick you out of your personal information. The agency says that fraudsters rig caller ID to make the number appear to come from a government hotline.“Government agencies usually will not call or email you — especially about something related to money. They almost always contact you by US mail,” the FTC said. The IRS is sending letters to Americans as a confirmation for receiving the stimulus check. The FTC says that scammers will claim to be calling over something such as Medicare, Social Security, or in this case, your stimulus check, and will ask for personal information to verify.“If you get a call or email from the IRS or any government agency asking you for personal information or money, that’s a scam. Hang up the phone or delete the email,” the FTC said.If you have questions about your stimulus check, you can call an IRS hotline at 800-919-9835.The IRS said earlier this month that 159 million Americans have received a stimulus check.
