BEIJING - An annual event to honor individuals and groups for their contributions to the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage around China has kicked off, according to the China Foundation for Cultural Heritage Conservation, the event's sponsor.

"Once again, the Chinese economy has defied the hand wringing of the nattering nabobs of negativism," Stephen Roach, faculty member at Yale University, wrote in an article on Project Syndicate.

Authorities of host cities have been striving to create the necessary infrastructure for the 2022 Games. Private and foreign investors are also tapping into the snow economy, as they foresee the Games are going to bring about robust growth of the business.
