Parler, an app launched in 2018, is now gaining popularity with some supporters of President Donald Trump in the wake of the election."My viewpoints are clearly being suppressed," George Borowski, who lives in Jupiter, said. "You can't tell me they're not."Borowski is a Parler user. He said his posts on traditional social media have been flagged."You put us on this island where it's like, 'No, no, you guys are in some sort of echo chamber,'" he said. "Um, no, I think what's happening is there is an echo chamber and Facebook is the echo chamber."Parler is an app gaining popularity with some on the right of the political aisle."We feel very much our voices aren't being heard and we can't have these conversations in this country," Borowski said. "You feel this suppression, so Parler was born out of this thought where you can go and not be censored."This surge in popularity follows recent efforts by Twitter and Facebook flagging what they claim is misinformation on their platforms."As a lot of tweets and a lot of Facebook posts from Donald Trump and his allies and even his family have been flagged on Facebook and Twitter from containing false information and inaccurate information about voter fraud from the previous election," Andrew Selepak, a social media professor at the University of Florida, said. "So what we're looking at is a lot of people who want to discuss this, and discuss it freely without posts being flagged, banned and not being able to be shared."Selepak said Parler has a fraction of users compared to Twitter and Facebook, but he noted the growth can't be ignored."The number of accounts in the past week has now doubled and we're looking at about 8 million users, which is a pretty significant jump for a platform that has only been around for about two years," he said.Selepak said critics of the platform call it an "echo chamber.""We've seen posts by QAnon or the Proud Boys or the Bugaloo that have been taken down and their accounts have been blocked by other platforms like Facebook and Twitter, and they're now able to go on Parler and be able to discuss topics and kind of spread information and ideologies, and that is creating some danger," he said. "Is there not any way to regulate it or have somebody checking on the misinformation being spread?"Selepak believed the lack of disagreement will ultimately limit growth."It's about the debate, discussion," he said. "People want to win. Police in Wisconsin have confirmed two cases of tampered Halloween candy throughout the state.In Arcadia, Wisconsin — a town located near the Wisconsin/Minnesota border — police confirmed that at least one child found needles in multiple pieces of Halloween candy.The needles were not visible until the candy was opened and broken in half. In both instances, the needles appeared to be sewing needles.Police say the incident happened sometime during trick-or-treat hours, between 3:00 and 7:00 p.m. They've warned parents in the community to check their children's candy.A few hundred miles away in Neenah, Wisconsin, police reported that nails were found in three pieces of Halloween candy.A spokesman for the Neenah Police Department said that a mother found three Kit Kat candy bars with nails protruding from them in her son's candy stash.Police suspect they can narrow down the house where the boy was given the candy, but did not say they were investigating any suspects.It's the second straight year in which a nail was found in a Neenah trick-or-treater's candy. A child found a nail hidden in a Tootsie Roll in 2016. No arrest was made in that case.Police are encouraging Neenah parents to inspect their children's candy for anything suspcious.Those reports comes just days after police in Randolph, Wisconsin — located about three hours east of Arcadia — say that a child in town received a piece of tampered candy while trick or treating on Saturday.According to police, the child received a Now and Later that appeared to have been soaked in motor oil or some other foreign substance. Police in southwest England say two people are in critical condition and are being treated "for suspected exposure to an unknown substance." One of the victims is a former Russian spy, Britain's national broadcaster said."The two people -- a man aged in his 60s, and a woman aged in her 30s -- were found unconscious on a bench in The Maltings in Salisbury," Wiltshire police said on Monday, adding that the injured are known to each other.UK's national broadcaster, the BBC, is naming the man, who is in his 60s, as former Russian spy Sergei Skripal, who was granted refuge in the UK following a "spy swap" between the US and Russia in 2010.None of the individuals involved has been named by the UK Home Office, Wiltshire Police or Salisbury Hospital."Because we are still at the very early stages of the investigation, we are unable to ascertain whether or not a crime has taken place," police said.Reiterating an earlier announcement, police said in a statement on Monday that "a major incident has been declared today and a multi-agency response has been co-ordinated." 1081

Papa John's tanked Tuesday after a report that a plan to sell the company has fallen apart.The Wall Street Journal reported that the asset manager Trian Management Funds is no longer interested in bidding for the company. According to the Journal, others are still considering taking a stake in the company, but not a total purchase.Papa John's (PZZA) stock was down 10% at market close Tuesday.Papa John's declined to comment for this story. Trian did not immediately respond to a request for comment from CNN Business.Rumors have been swirling for weeks about potential buyers for the company. Each report has caused shares of the company to spike. The Journal reported Trian's interest last month.Without a buyer, the struggling pizza company will have to find a way to convince investors that it can solve its problems on its own, and beat out competitors Domino's and Pizza Hut. That's a tall order.The company has been working hard to distance itself from controversial founder John Schnatter, who resigned his role as chairman in July after news broke that he had used the N-word on a conference call.Papa John's said earlier this month that same-store sales in North America fell by 9.8% during the most recent quarter. Total revenue dropped 15.7% from a year earlier to about 4 million.Schnatter also stepped down as CEO at the end of last year after he caused a controversy by blaming the NFL for poor pizza sales. PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — A Pasco, Fla. woman was arrested after deputies say she was passed out drunk at the wheel of a parked car with a 5-year-old child in the back seat.20-year-old Sarah Nisse was found after the girl answered a phone call from her father.He called the 5-year-old via FaceTime and was able to see where the vehicle was parked.He found the car at 2509 Success Dr. and immediately removed his daughter from the vehicle and called 911.Fire rescue arrived and tried to administer aid to Nisse. She didn't say anything but raised a middle finger at them. When deputies arrived, Nisse appeared to be 'heavily intoxicated' and was taken to the Medical Center of Trinity.She blew a .276 and .272 three hours after the incident.Deputies say that without proper supervision, the 5-year-old was at risk of possible injury or death due to a large pond being next to where the car was parked, as well as due to the fact that Nisse was driving while under the influence.She was arrested for child neglect, violation of probation and DUI. She was on probation for willful child neglect in reference to a case in 2015 where she had sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old juvenile. 1187
