(KGTV) – Sheriff’s investigators and San Diego Police Detectives worked together to arrest three men after a series of small business burglaries in the Poway and Rancho Bernardo area.Robbers shattered the glass doors of Tony Pepperoni early Sunday morning and stole the restaurant’s safe."I was just happy it was at 5 a.m., and nobody was here and everyone's safe," said Sarah Dean, the manager of the pizza place. She said security cameras caught the burglary on camera.Pattaya Thai, the restaurant right across the street, was also broken into early Sunday morning.Dean believed the same thieves robbed both restaurants, which are in Rancho Carmel Village Center.The next break in the case came from more than three miles away in 4S Ranch on Sunday afternoon when a neighbor reported loud noise coming from behind the Boys and Girls Club.When deputies arrived, they found three men trying to crack the Tony Pepperoni’s safe.Sheriff’s investigators and SDPD detectives arrested and questioned Da'Shon Morales, 20, Jesus Ruiz Arias Jr., 19, and Fernando Vazquez Cruz, 20, on Sunday night in connection with burglary, possession of stolen property and other crimes. 1206

Researchers from Florida Atlantic University released a video on Tuesday that shows how droplets disperse into the air from a person’s mouth.The researchers used different kinds of masks to analyze the disbursement of the droplets. The researchers also showed that without a mask, six feet of distance might not be enough to avoid infection.The FAU team tested a single-layer bandana-style covering, a homemade mask that was stitched using two-layers of cotton quilting fabric consisting of 70 threads per inch, and a non-sterile cone-style mask that is available in most pharmacies. The team used a mannequin, Laser lights and synthetic fog to help visualize the spread of the droplet from a cough..The researchers said that stitched quilted cotton masks worked the best in the simulation, with droplets from emulated coughs traveling just 2.5 inches from the mask. By comparison, without a mask, the droplets moved more than 8 feet, with some droplets traveling up to 12 feet during a heavy cough. The researchers also noted that the droplets remained suspended in midair for up to three minutes in the simulated environment.“We found that although the unobstructed turbulent jets were observed to travel up to 12 feet, a large majority of the ejected droplets fell to the ground by this point,” said Dhanak. “Importantly, both the number and concentration of the droplets will decrease with increasing distance, which is the fundamental rationale behind social-distancing.”FAU said that droplets from a cough traveled 3 feet, 7 inches from a bandana; 1 foot, 3 inches from a folded handkerchief; and 8 inches from a cone-style mask.“Preliminary results from our experiment reveal that significant concentrations of small particles from a turbulent jet such as from a heavy cough/sneeze can linger in still air for more than one minute. It only took the particles a couple of seconds to travel 3 feet; in about 12 seconds it reached 6 feet and in about 41 seconds it reached around 9 feet,” said Siddhartha Verma, an assistant professor in FAU’s Department of Ocean and Mechanical Engineering.Last week, the University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation projected that 33,000 American lives would be saved between now and October 1 by near universal wearing of masks.Last month, a study in the Lancet found that the use of masks and respirators by those infected with the virus reduced the risk of spreading the infection by 85%. The authors analyzed data that showed that N95 respirators in healthcare settings were up to 96% effective. Other masks were found to be 77% effective.The CDC issued guidance in April to recommend mask wearing while in public, which has become a requirement to enter retail establishments in more than a dozen states.The CDC's guidance stressed several points: That wearing a face covering is not a substitute for social distancing, and that the public should not use medical or surgical masks. President Donald Trump signed an executive order aimed at changing policing practices as weeks-long protests against police brutality continue to take place across the country.Trump signed the order Tuesday afternoon at an event at the White House Rose Garden.WHAT IS IN IT?Trump's encouraged police departments to update their training and enact higher standards. He is also encouraging departments to implement accreditation policies for officers.According to senior White House officials, who briefed reporters Monday by phone, the President will also recommend departments call upon social workers to team up with officers when they respond to a non-violent 911 call.Trump is also expected to encourage the formation of a nationwide database to track officers who may be fired from one department in an effort to prevent another department from hiring them.Advisers to the President said Monday the administration would enforce the order by prioritizing departments who adopt the President's recommendations when they apply for federal grants.WHAT IS NOT IN IT?Trump said Tuesday that his order would ban police chokeholds — but stopped short of banning them completely. He said chokeholds would still be permitted if an officer's life is in danger.The order also does not address no-knock warrants or the legal doctrine of "qualified immunity" which currently prohibits officers from being sued in civil court.CONGRESS TAKES ACTION NEXTCongress is expected to debate more consequential pieces of legislation in the coming weeks.While Trump has denounced the officers involved in the arrest and death of George Floyd, he's consistently backed efforts supportive of law enforcement, often declaring himself the president of "law and order." 1751

President Trump has signed the Music Modernization Act into law, a bill that will bring sweeping changes to the way music is licensed and songwriters are paid.Supporters say the Music Modernization Act, championed by Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tennessee), will ensure that songwriters get paid fairly for their work in the streaming age.  A key aspect of the legislation is the creation of a new independent entity that will license songs to companies that play music online. The group will then pay songwriters, while digital streaming services, like Spotify or Pandora, can ask for a blanket license. This is the first overhaul to music copyright law in decades. The law will also make sure artists who made music prior to 1972 are paid.Recording artists didn't have any copyright rights in their works until 1972. Kanye West, Kid Rock and John Rich are among artists expected to attend Thursday's ceremony at the White House.   965
