Their brain is rewarded when their brainwaves are in a certain range with a screen that brightens and audio that plays louder in their headphones.“The brain is training to do what we’re asking it to do," Myles said.Think of it as conditioning, just like any other part of the body.“Your brain is a muscle, just as if you were to have a sprained ankle or a broken leg. You can’t expect someone to run a race with it," Tripp said.Shelli sees the methods they use at The Mind Gym as a way to treat mental health beyond traditional paths such as medication, and a way to reach breakthroughs that can feel hard to find.“It’s kind of like an onion. It will unfold stuff," Myles said. "So the importance of having a counselor while you’re doing neurofeedback is important.”Though it is not approved by the Food and Drug Administration, the National Institutes of Health says Neurofeedback is an alternative method that has shown improvement in treating many mental health disorders. But its report suggests the benefits aren’t long-lasting.“I’m able to sleep for the first time in my life," Tripp said.Tripp says her sessions twice a week for six months have undeniably worked for her.“Colors are brighter, food tastes different, it’s beyond words really," Tripp said. “To know I could have transformed my life so long ago, nobody should be struggling right now that this is out there.” 2506

INDIANAPOLIS -- A woman who comforted an IUPUI student during her last moments after being struck by a school bus Monday hopes her family knows everyone did all they could for her.Fatima Hassuneh, 18, was crossing a street at an intersection on IUPUI’s campus around 1:30 p.m. Monday when a bus attempting to make a left-hand turn struck her.School officials said the bus was under contract with Indianapolis Public Schools, but owned by Durham Transportation. Witnesses and IUPUI officials say Hassuneh had the right of way.Hassuneh was a pre-med student who aspired to become a doctor, according to a post by the IUPUI Muslim Student Association.“Fatima, an aspiring doctor, was a sophomore in biology and was known for her kind heart and sense of humor,” the Muslim Student Association wrote. “She was a gift among us and has returned to her Lord. She was very active in our community and would often lead interfaith events. May Allah allow her to continue to reap the benefits of those deeds.”At the time of the crash, Alysa Schultz and her boyfriend were sitting at a red light at the very same intersection. She said that as soon as she saw what happened, her boyfriend started calling 911 while she rushed to check on Hassuneh.“As I was kind of kneeling there next to her, all she was doing was just holding her hand out, so I just grabbed it and held onto it,” Schultz said. “People were getting mad, saying, ‘Don’t touch her. Don’t move her.’ But at the same time, that one little bit of humanity – just hold on to her hand – that’s probably all she wanted.”Schultz said she didn’t know Hassuneh – but that her friends and classmates have messaged her since telling her what a wonderful person she was.“I had a lot of people message me on Facebook saying how awesome of a person she was and how beautiful and smart and driven and how involved she was,” Schultz said. “I really wish I would have known her.”Schultz, a former IUPUI student herself, said she hopes Hassuneh’s family can take some comfort from all of the efforts made to save her.“I hope that her family knows that there were six people calling the police, four people running around the corner to grab any police who were nearby,” Shultz said. “Everybody was stopping and blocking off the road so that no one could come near the situation. INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — University of Notre Dame students are now subject to mandatory coronavirus testing with stricter penalties if they leave town before getting their test results after thousands of fans stormed the football field and threw parties to celebrate a double-overtime upset over Clemson.Notre Dame President, the Rev. John Jenkins, said in an email Sunday that students must undergo coronavirus testing before leaving South Bend, Indiana, for the winter break.Jenkins says if a student is exposed or tests positive, they must quarantine on campus for two weeks. Students who don't complete the test can't register for classes.According to the Associated Press, students will face "severe sanctions" if they host a large gathering.As of Monday afternoon, the university's online COVID-19 dashboard showed six new cases reported on Sunday, giving the school 1,382 total positive cases among students and staff members. INDIANAPOLIS -- An Allegiant Airlines flight from Indianapolis to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, was forced to make an emergency landing Sunday evening after a “noxious smell” was detected in the cabin.Allegiant Flight 1878 took off from the Indianapolis International Airport at 3:00 p.m. Sunday. It was scheduled to land at Myrtle Beach International Airport at 4:27 p.m.Mid-flight, however, flight attendants came on the intercom and informed passengers that the plane was going to make an emergency landing at the nearest airport due to a “noxious smell” in the cabin.The plane landed at Asheville Regional Airport, where passengers were asked to deplane. A passenger aboard the flight told Scripps station WRTV in Indianapolis that as she did so she could smell a “burning, smoky smell” near the cabin.In a statement to WRTV, Allegiant said the flight was diverted to Asheville "out of an abundance of caution to check out an electrical odor.
