TAIPEI, June 16 (Xinhua) -- China's eastern Zhejiang Province and Taiwan have agreed to deepen cooperation in agriculture, tourism, finance and other sectors, according to sources with a Zhejiang delegation which concluded its eight-day visit to the island on Wednesday.The sources said that the delegation, led by Zhejiang governor Lu Zushan, purchased 31 million yuan (4.5 million U.S. dollars) worth fruits and tea products from local farmers in Kaohsiung and Nantou.Zhejiang provincial government also pledged to help Taiwan farmers to sell their agricultural products in Hangzhou, Ningbo, Yiwu and other cities in the province and offer them preferential treatment in participating farm produce exhibitions.Zhejiang Province plans to increase its imports from Taiwan to about 10 billion U.S. dollars by the end of this year, from last year's 7.7 billion U.S. dollars.After the first six Zhejiang companies which have been permitted to conduct investment in Taiwan, Zhejiang government will promote more companies to invest in the island.Commercial banks in Zhejiang and Taiwan have also achieved cooperation agreement on financial service, insurance, futures trading and other services for small and medium-sized companies on both sides.Zhejiang is where many Taiwan people come from.The province is also a magnet for Taiwanese investment. The trade volume between Zhejiang and Taiwan hit 9.06 billion U.S. dollars last year, according to Lu.Since the beginning of this year, leading officials from various municipalities and provinces - Shanghai, Hubei, Fujian, Guizhou, Qinghai, Shandong and Sichuan - and the ministries of commerce and agriculture have led delegations to Taiwan to boost cooperation and exchanges with the island.

ZHOUQU, Gansu, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- A new round of rains started to pound the mudslide-flattened Chinese town of Zhouqu Monday night, which has increased the possibilities of new mudslides occurring.The weather bureau in the Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in northwest China's Gansu Province, which administers Zhouqu County, issued a rainstorm warning Monday night, warning about the likelihood of new geological disasters.Rains started pounding Zhouqu at around 10 p.m., which, according to Gansu's provincial weather bureau, could last for five days and precipitation in some regions may reach 60 to 80 mm.The massive landslide on August 8 killed 1,254 people as of 4 p.m.Monday, with 490 still missing.Residents are ferried by a boat in landslide-hit Zhouqu County, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in northwest China's Gansu Province, Aug. 16, 2010. BEIJING, July 28 (Xinhua) -- President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao on Wednesday respectively sent condolence messages to their Pakistani counterparts after a deadly airplane crash that killed all the 152 people on board.In his message, Hu, on behalf of the Chinese government and the people and in his personal name, conveyed to Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari his profound condolences for the victims and sincere regards to the families of those killed in the worst plane crash ever in Pakistan.In a separate message, Premier Wen Jiabao extended to Pakistani Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani his condolences for the victims and offerred regards to the families of those killed.Earlier Wednesday, an Airbus 321 carrying 152 people crashed minutes before it was supposed to land in Islamabad, killing everyone onboard, including at least 20 women and seven children as well as two Americans and a Somalian.The Airblue flight carrying 146 passengers and six crew members left Karachi in the morning and lost contact with the control tower at the Islamabad airport shortly before the crash. The plane was on its way from Turkey to the Pakistani capital via Karachi.The plane, which was manufactured in 2000, was leased in January 2006 by Airblue, a private service based in Karachi, Pakistan's largest city, according to local media.Also Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi sent a condolence message to Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi for the deadly air crash and the serious casualties.

BEIJING, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Donations for quake relief in Yushu,northwest China had hit 7.529 billion yuan (1.1 billion U.S. dollars) in cash and material, according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs Wednesday.The donations included nearly 6.8 billion yuan in cash and materials worth 730 million yuan, said a statement from the ministry.The 7.1-magnitude earthquake that hit Qinghai Province's Yushu prefecture on April 14 had left 2,698 dead, with 270 people still missing, said Zhang Guangrong, vice governor of Qinghai, on May 31.
