This workshop is one part of the Sharing and Learning Program on Community-Based Disaster Management in Asia (CBDM Asia) jointly launched by China's MCA, UK's Department for International Development (DFID) and UNDP in January 2013. It aims to increase resilience to disasters like earthquakes, floods and typhoons in developing countries, by strengthening regional cooperation on community-based disaster risk reduction.
China and Australia are both major countries in the Asia-Pacific region, said Xi in a meeting with Abbott. "Their close cooperation would not only serve the fundamental interests of both countries, but also contribute to regional and world peace and development," he said.
The delegation will also visit Chinese factories and interact with Chinese entrepreneurs.
Ever since the founding of ASEAN in 1967, the relations between China and the regional bloc have gone through a long process of extraordinary development. The two sides developed into dialogue partners after the Cold War ended. Bilateral ties have since advanced from comprehensive dialogue partnership to a 21st century- oriented partnership of good neighborliness and mutual trust, before being elevated to a strategic partnership for peace and prosperity.
Meanwhile, Sitaram Yechury, a senior leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and a member of the Upper House of Parliament, said the decision will lead China into further development in the 21st century and push forward the country's socialist construction.
