SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The parents of more than 600 migrant children still haven’t been found, more than two and a half years after thousands of children were separated from their parents at the border.The separations happened from 2017 to 2018, as part of President Trump’s zero tolerance policy.According to a tweet from the ACLU, the parents of 666 migrant children have not been found, that number is over 100 more than what was reported during a court hearing in late October.The zero tolerance policy started in 2017, when over 2,700 children were separated from their parents after crossing the U.S. - Mexico border. The policy was ended by San Diego federal Judge Dana Sabraw in 2018.Last month, the same judge asked the Trump administration to do more to help find the children’s parents.Richard Villasana is the founder of Forever Homes for Foster Kids, a San Diego charity that helps locate families of children in the U.S. foster care system, often times working in Latin American countries.“Some of these children will never be reunited with their parents because there was just not enough information to work with,” says Villasana.The ACLU says the children’s parents are believed to be in their home countries. Villasana says the process of finding relatives in other countries is very complicated, often times only having a last name or a city to work with. Other times, Villasana says, volunteers have to depend on the child’s memory for information, which can be challenging if they are too young.“Depending upon their age, they’re probably not going to be of any help to help the attorneys with ACLU and those non-profits to connect them to their parents,” explains Villasana.As reunification efforts continue, Villasana expects that it will be years before these children’s parents are found and he says it’s likely some will never be located.Another court hearing is scheduled in San Diego on December 4th. 1932

"That's why I think it's really important for the entire family that these stories are kept and retold, so people remember what happens."The service pairs people up with ghostwriters who spend hours interviewing the subject and then write a book for them. It costs between ,900 and ,450 depending on how long and detailed you want the book to be, and how many pictures you want to include."Ultimately, the content is up to the customer, to change and have it the way they want," says Bruining.Retired Navy Pilot Frank Miley wrote his life story on his own before he knew about Story Terrace. He says putting it in writing was emotional, but also crucial, so his family knows what he went through during the Vietnam War."I didn't do it for glory," Miley says. "I just wanted to let them know that I did my job to keep them safe."Jim Reily, who runs the docent program on the USS Midway, says that first-hand interaction is the best way for people to hear about veterans' contributions to the country."It's gratifying to talk to a bunch of folks who have never been on a ship and explain what happens and see the awe and wonder in their eyes," Reily says. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The San Diego Zoo's newest resident is getting the hang of life as a rhino.Edward, the southern white rhino, experienced is first trot around the San Diego Zoo Safari Park's Nikita Kahn Rhino Rescue Center Monday.With his mom, Victoria, leading the way, Edward charged around the enclosure and even fit a mud bath into his busy schedule. It was the first time the mom and calf were released from the center's maternity yard and other off-exhibit areas.RELATED: Birth of baby rhino marks major milestone in effort to save critically endangered species“Victoria has been in the exhibit yard before but this was Edward’s first time,” said Jill Van Kempen, senior keeper at San Diego Zoo Safari Park. “The second they entered the exhibit, Victoria just took off, running laps, and it was so fun to see Edward running right along beside her. He was very energetic, sometimes breathing heavily, and even getting all four feet off the ground at times.”For about 30 minutes, the zoo says Edward and Victoria took advantage of the larger space by running around and stretching their legs.Edward was born 23 days ago, becoming the first southern white rhino calf born via artificial insemination in the country. Edward was born weighing about 148 pounds, but now weighs about 243 pounds.
