It’s been nearly four decades since a Northern Ireland-based start-up car company put a futuristic take on the sports car. With its low profile, sleek, stainless steel body and unmistakable gull-wing doors, DeLorean’s DMC-12 remains one of the most recognizable cars on the planet. “You're going down the road and people are just hanging out their windows taking pictures and videotaping,” explains DMC-12 owner Robert Keslar.Keslar bought his second DeLorean with severe engine damage eight years ago.“There was some fiberglass damage from the fire that occurred,” he said. “So, I did all that myself and then I brought it up here to the shop and they finished it up for me and got it back on the road.”Only one model, in one color, was ever released before the company shutdown production in 1982. Its founder John DeLorean was in legal hot water and the original company was left insolvent.“It was a perfect storm,” said current DeLorean Motor Company Vice President James Espey. “A bad economy, high interest rates and a bad exchange rate on the pound to the dollar.”With just over 9,000 produced, an estimated 6500 remain on the road today.But it was 1985’s "Back to the Future" that electrified audiences, cementing the DeLorean’s place in American pop culture.In the film, an incredulous Marty McFly played by Michael J. Fox asks the question: “You built a time machine out of a DeLorean?”Doc Brown played by Christopher Lloyd responds with this: “The way I look at it, if you’re going to build a time machine you ought to do it with some style.”It’s that style and original design that’s been frozen in time. And the re-imagined DeLorean Motor Company remains on its quest to bring the iconic luxury car into the future. “We still have people who don't know that the company is still in existence,” says Espey. DMC is now headquartered just outside of Houston in Humble, Texas. They specialize in the service and restoration of DeLorean cars. They even hope to one day produce new ones.“When the Delorean factory closed in late ‘82, all the remaining parts got shipped here to the United States,” according to Espey.Their warehouse, now a time-capsule, is lined with original parts manufactured nearly 40 years ago. “About three and a half million altogether,” says Espey. “Nuts Bolts Washers glass interior trim switches stainless steel panels pretty much everything to make a car.”That’s enough parts, potentially to build another 500 cars. But DMC says new production is on hold for now. In Fort Collins, Colorado, there’s a place where athletes train seven days a week. The gym, run by Ryan Schultz, is called Trials Mixed Martial Arts and it’s not an ordinary gym.“This gym isn’t for your average person,” Schultz says “You’re going to be pushed here. You’re going to be tested. Overall, I think this place is for everybody. I think you just have to have the right mind set.” This gym is opened to athletes, and Schultz said that includes everyone. “If you’re an adaptive athlete, for example someone who had their leg removed, we have stuff for you as well here,” Schultz says. “But our mentality here is that there’s no laying down in life. Life doesn’t wait for anybody. I think that when people get a disease, or some sort of diagnosis it’s overwhelming for them and they tend to shut down. That’s more of the time to keep moving forward.” Schultz has multiple programs running through his gym. One of the programs was started by him and his friend Glenn Beach.“I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease five years ago,” Beach says. “And I’ve been training with Ryan to help treat it.” “Glenn brought to me the Rock Steady Program,” Schultz says. “I like Rock Steady, because they have research that proves this type of program works.”Rock Steady uses boxing to help those fighting Parkinson’s. Beach says this program changed his life. “I’ve had, I would say, a 100 percent improvement,” Beach says. “I had no control over my left hand. Now, I only have a subtle tremor every once in a while. It’s so much more manageable now, and a lot of it has to do with the training I got through Rock Steady.” The course is offered three times a week, and the workouts take about one hour. Beach says that the class does progress assessments every six to 12 months. According to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, it's estimated 1 million people in the United States are diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. On average, women pay about for a cut, while a man pays on average, according to The Beauty Association.Emily Hope Dobkin was tired of paying more for her haircuts than her husband was paying for his. She said the time they spend in the chair was the same. "The price would go up every year, and I was like maybe.
