SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The future of Horton Plaza was teased in a new set of renderings released by the firm that purchased the aging mall.Stockdale Capital Partners purchased Horton Plaza in June 2018 with the aim of revitalizing the center into a mixed-use high-tech office and retail space. Wednesday, the firm gave a glimpse at The Campus at Horton, showing a completely transformed Nordstrom building from a concrete facade into a glass-covered office space. The building will also see an addition 150,000-square-feet of space added to the existing structure.RELATED: Time's up: Horton Plaza says goodbye to iconic Jessop's Clock“The Campus at Horton is exactly what we hear some high tech companies are seeking in San Diego,” Mark Cafferty, President and CEO of the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation, said in a release. “The existing open floor plans and expansive square footage of the current Horton Plaza are perfectly suited to the design and layout of modern office spaces.”Another addition teased is an "amenity deck" that will take the current place of the mall's food court. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The message from nurses and caregivers Tuesday morning was clear, "it's a question of priorities for entire healthcare system." Frustration and anger built after a 27-month contract renewal was signed by Palomar Health's CEO, Diane Hansen. The contract details a base salary close to million, with potential of earning bonuses, increasing that amount. Frontline workers argue that because COVID-19 led to an increase of patients, and layoffs of caregivers and nurses, "the board should have invested in resources and more protective equipment. Some of the PPE is not even medical grade, and everyone who's been laid off should be brought back," said representative for California's nurses association, Sarah Gurling. Gurling joined other reps and nurses in a protest at Palomar Medical Center, arguing funds should have been allocated towards other resources within their facilities."Caregivers and nurses are the heart of the hospital. We know what's best for patients and each other. The hospital executives and the Palomar board has lost sight of that." Meahwhile, Palomar's health board chair, Richard Engel, stands behind his decision. He said Hansen has done a tremendous job and credits much of the hospital's success through her work. Engel added her salary is comparable to other hospital's CEO's.Registered nurse, Sue Phillips, said their efforts will continue no matter what. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The man accused of assaulting a Pacific Beach woman while she slept in her own home was in court for the first time on Monday. Jeffrey Hanze pleaded not guilty to the charges, which include sexual assault during a burglary. The 55-year-old was arrested in L.A. County on October 29th for the crime. Police say Hanze broke into a home in Pacific Beach on October 1st, getting in through an open window, then assaulting a woman while she slept. The woman woke up to the assault and Hanze got away.On Monday, the judge agreed to increase his bail from 0,000 to a million dollars and issued a protective order for the victim. A background check shows Hanze has a criminal record, including two felonies in San Diego County and several sex crimes dating back to 2011 in Arizona. Hanze is due in court again on November 15th.    913

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The magic of the holiday classic "The Nutcracker" couldn't be stopped, even by a pandemic, as the San Diego Civic Youth Ballet has figured out a way for the show to go on.We're used to seeing this ballet with its lavish sets on an indoor stage with dancers close together, but this season things will look different because the virtual show will be outside with dancers wearing masks and distancing.Lucia del Rio stars as Clara and says, "I'm just really excited to be doing it at all. It's like in the beginning it was kind of hard to see how it was going to work especially since we were on Zoom. The most exciting part for me is being around everyone even if we have our masks on."The 9th grader from Academy of Our Lady of Peace says while they have had two in-person rehearsals following safety precautions, most rehearsals have been from home alone via Zoom."It's just very tough.. My floor is not good, my floor is very slippery." San Diego Civic Youth Ballet Artistic Director Danika Pramik-Holdaway has been on the other end of those Zoom rehearsals and says they've all had to overcome a few obstacles."Knowing who they stand next to, who they go behind, how they go in their direct order, when you're on Zoom at home by yourself that's very very challenging," says Pramik-Holdaway.But the students were up to the task and with hard work, Lucia and the other dancers have been able to turn lonely Zoom rehearsals into something special. The small group performance outside the Casa del Prado Theater will be recorded so people can watch online. It will be a simplified, shorter version of The Nutcracker, but the beloved scenes will still be there. Lucia says, "It's really really special. It's kind of a gift to be able to dance with people in the holiday season, so I'm really excited about that."Not to mention a virtual trip to see the Sugar Plum Fairy could yield a sweet reward --- more viewers than usual. Pramik-Holdaway says, "I'm sure we'll have definitely a lot of grandparents, who don't live here in San Diego, get to see their grandkids dance."They both agree that holding onto cherished traditions like this one, even if they have to be adapted, is something we need right now."Since we're in Balboa Park we have people walking through the park and everyone stops by and says, 'Oh, the Nutcracker!' They hear the music and I think it makes everyone feel like things are going to be okay again," says Pramik-Holdaway.SDCYB is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year and ticket sales help keep this nonprofit going.
