OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) — An Oceanside officer was taken to the hospital Tuesday after a man broke a patrol vehicle's windshield, sending glass into the officer's eyes.OPD said a man known to police as a transient got into a confrontation with an officer at College Ave. and North River Rd. at about 5 p.m. The man reportedly used an object to break the windshield of the officer's vehicle, injuring the officer's eyes with glass.The officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and will reportedly be okay, according to OPD.The San Diego Sheriff's Department, Carlsbad Police, and an ASTREA helicopter helped in the search for the suspect. SDSO said just before 7 p.m. that the suspect was in custody.According to City News Service, the suspect was armed with a machete. The suspect reportedly stabbed a police dog during his arrest. A number of holiday office parities in 2020 will be non-existent, but experts say employers can still do a lot to show employees they appreciate them this holiday season."What I’ve heard recently is obviously, are employers are having to come up with different types of gatherings, not even gatherings but ways to celebrate. And what makes me feel good is there’s still desire to do that, it’s just how to do it," said Lisa Frydenlund, an HR Knowledge Adviser with the Society for Human Resources Management. She says some businesses will be holding virtual celebrations."I even saw just recently something about getting a musician or some sort of that to be prerecorded and then sent out to people. So, it's a little mini concert. I think employers are getting very creative," said Frydenlund.Valerie Keels works at the company Gavi, which has offices in Switzerland and Washington, D.C. Keels is working with a team of five other people to put on a virtual end-of-the-year office event. Complete with a virtual cartoonist, personal videos and more for their 350 employees."I think it serves a purpose. It's a reminder to those people who are more solitary, and okay being that way, that yeah, we’re all in this together and we can still be collegial and still have fun together," said Keels.The biggest focus for Keels and her team is making sure their employees come together to celebrate all of their hard work."It's so important that organizations either foster or maintain that connectedness because it's so important for the motivation and even well-being of staff to be connected to both the organization and the colleagues," said Keels.For some companies in lieu of holiday party, extra vacation days will be offered, as a way to show employees their appreciation during this unprecedented year."Time away is definitely something that's an added benefit that people can provide. You don't have to have a celebration or try to mimic what we had before, but why not give the gift of time," said Frydenlund.Frydenlund says while some companies will still be hosting holiday parties as usual, she says many will likely consider the pandemic and proceed with caution."When you start to think about what is the intention around celebrating around the holidays and I’ve always wanted to make sure you’re inclusive in doing so because everybody celebrates things differently. (KGTV) --  A swarm of earthquakes is once again shaking the Ocotillo Wells area Sunday.The largest earthquakes to hit the area Sunday morning was a 3.5 magnitude 14 miles away from Ocotillo Wells at 4:05 a.m. That earthquake was followed by a 3.3 magnitude at 6:33 a.m. At this time, there are no reports of damage or injury. RELATED: Series of earthquakes shake Ocotillo Wells area  The eruption of small earthquakes began Saturday evening between 5 and 6 p.m. The largest of Saturday's quakes registered as a 3.5 magnitude.  587

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - A desperate mother is making a plea for tips after a thief snatched her van, a "lifeline" for her special needs daughter.Veronica Lara lives on Harrison Street. Her 7-year-old daughter, Sophie, suffers from Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, and a rare chromosomal disorder called Pallister-Killian Mosaic Syndrome. A year ago, her family spent ,000 making her 2015 Toyota Sienna wheelchair accessible."It's my daughter's lifeline. We can't go anywhere without it," said Lara.On Tuesday night, with the family inside the home, someone stole it between 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. That van is needed for Sophie's many medical appointments.RELATED: NFL game result may have fueled Fallbrook vandalism, destruction of truck"At this point, I will have to cancel her appointments, because I have no mode of transportation for her," said Lara.The loss is not just about getting places. Sophie loves being in the van and getting out of the house."She laughs a lot. Anything that makes her happy fills my heart with joy," said Lara.Joy is not the word to describe her family's past month. He is no longer able to work as a tow truck driver, which will squeeze the family's finances."I'm still standing strong. I'm a strong momma, but this special needs family has gone through a lot, and this just added to my grief and anxiety ...
