SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One of San Diego's most recognized dive bars has been sold to two local cousins.The Aero Club's property was purchased, along with its neighboring property occupied by the t-shirt company Dyno Brand, for .4 million by cousins Chad Cline and Jason "Rocky" Nichols. The bar, formerly owned by Chinatown Bar & Grill's Bill Lutzius, will largely remain unchanged with its dive bar-style in tact, according to Cline. Cline said the two are dive bar fans and Aero Club held a special spot for them as they worked nearby at Waterfront."[Aero Club] was always kind of the spot that we felt was similar to what Waterfront was," Cline said. "We’re dive bar fans. All the spots that we’re associated with are kind of dive bars as well."And, of course, there's the Aero Clubs massive assortment of whiskey at the bar — which isn't going anywhere."I started liking it even more," Cline joked of when Aero Club started collecting hundreds of varieties of whiskey. He added if any changes were to come, the portfolio of whiskeys could expand."That's our goal with the whole thing is to continue it and not ruin it," he said. "‘I think what Aero Club is in not because of me or Rocky but because of Bill and previous owners."Dyno Brand is set to move from the neighboring property on April 1, Cline said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Months after one of San Diego’s biggest employers was said to be looking to add up to 1,000 jobs, General Dynamics NASSCO instead announced layoffs.In April, NASSCO held a job fair, claiming the company was looking to add up to 1,000 jobs. Robert Godinez, head of the Boilermakers Union Local 1998, says the shipbuilder didn’t hire close to that number.In total, NASSCO notified nearly 1,500 workers that they could be out of a job in September. The shipbuilder told 10News it expects to let go of closer to 350 workers.The layoffs are in relation to a dry dock accident in July that damaged facilities.One of the company’s employees, Glicerio Cortez, says he doesn’t know exactly what happened in July, but he heard of the damage through coworkers. “They say that they heard like a, something like a bomb, something strong and then the water came all the way to the dry dock,” said Cortez.RELATED: NASSCO delivers layoff notices to 1,500 workersVideo captured by Sky10 shows water flooding the dry dock as debris filled the area. Luckily, no one was injured.The July incident isn’t the only reason for the layoffs. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Nearly 300 goats are munching away at brush on and around Cuyamaca College.The college contracted with Environmental Land Management and its goats to help with fire mitigation.A preserve surrounds the 165-acre campus. The goats and ELM staff and machinery will clear about 50 acres of brush in six to eight weeks. The goats are estimated to do 65 percent of the clearing work.Julianna Barnes, the President of Cuyamaca College, says the goats are a way to be pro-active during the fire season.“Usually we bring out an all-human crew with heavy machinery,” Barnes said, “but it’s actually 20 percent the cost of bringing in an all-human crew. And it’s more environmentally sound.”The goats will eat 7- to 10-percent of their body weight. Also, goats do not re-seed plant life in their excrement, according to the college.“We have a lot of non-native plants, and they’re highly flammable,” Barnes said, “(The goats) love to eat, and they love these non- native plants.” 994

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are trying to determine what caused a 92-year-old man to crash into the side of a Chollas View home Thursday morning.The crash happened on the 300 block of St. Rita Court, authorities say.The nephew of the woman who lives in the home told 10News no one was home at the time of the crash, but the dogs inside the home were frightened by the incident.RELATED: Car crashes into City Heights home following pursuitThe man was taken to the hospital in unknown condition. The amount of damage to the home is unknown and crews say they won’t be able to complete an inspection until the vehicle is removed. 638

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Parents at a charter school in Chollas View are sounding the alarm after learning the fate of their founder and current director is now uncertain.This past spring, Patricio Ramirez graduated from Gompers Preparatory Academy with a full scholarship to San Diego State University."My son is first generation. This is a dream come true," said his mother, Theressah Rodirugez.But Theressah and her husband Victor, who have another son in 9th grade, are suddenly worried for his future."I am heartbroken," said Victor Ramirez.He's heartbroken after learning San Diego Unified plans to end a unique agreement to loan out staff to the school, which began when the school was founded in 2004."It was one of the lowest performing schools in the district. Very violent campus and gang infected," said school alum and education advocate Ellen Nash.Nash says when the school made the switch to a charter school, the district agreed to loan out a handful of staff, including then principal Vincent Riveroll, along with college counselors and support staff."He changed the culture to a college-going campus," said Nash.Nash says Riveroll set high educational standards, recruited and trained teachers, and implemented tutoring, after-school and summer school programs.This past spring, nearly 100% of the school's senior class was college bound."In an underserved community, they have a star in that community," said Nash.She worries it will turn into a fallen star without the school district's longstanding support, and the presence of Riveroll.In a memo released by the school district, officials point out there is more legal liability in loaning out staff, as the district has ended these agreements district-wide, thus turning the schools into traditional charter schools.School district officials points out the school already reimburses the them for the staff members' salaries. They're trying to confirm how much of the benefits - including retirement benefits - are also reimbursed by the school.The school district is set to end the on-loan program in July 2021. 2086
