SAN DIEGO (KGTV)-- A man was shot in the leg Friday morning in downtown San Diego's East Village neighborhood by a man who approached him asking to buy drugs, San Diego police said.The shooting was reported around 4:40 a.m. on 16th Street between K Street and Imperial Avenue, just west of Interstate 5.According to police, a man who looked to be in his 20s approached the victim on 16th Street, and walked off when said the victim replied that he didn’t sell drugs.About 20 minutes later, the same man returned and confronted the victim, pulled out a handgun and shot him in the leg.The victim was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.The gunman was described as a 5-foot-8 black man in his 20s with a heavy build and curly black hair. At the time of the shooting, he wore a blue jacket and gray pants.Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call San Diego Police Department's central division at 619-744-9500. 944

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Whether you're out for the night in the Gaslamp District or heading to a friend's for a NYE soiree, there's plenty of options to get around on Dec. 31 without getting behind the wheel yourself.San Diego MTS is beefing up service on Dec. 31, adding more trolley service through the night and partnering with Lyft to offer ride discounts. Service to accommodate riders to the Holiday Bowl Parade and game are also being offered.With the additional services, some modified schedules will be in place:New Year's Eve (Dec. 31): All trolley lines and most MTS bus routes will operate on normal weekday schedule.Holiday Bowl Parade: Extra Green Line Trolley service between Mission Valley and downtown will begin at 9 a.m. and will continue after the parade. Best access to the parade route are via Sycuan Green Line and UC San Diego Blue Line, MTS says.Holiday Bowl game: Service on Sycuan Green Line will run every 15 minutes throughout the day. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A heated debate broke out Tuesday night, as San Diego County parents discussed the rising number of school threats. One of the latest -- hateful, spray painted messages threatening violence at Rancho Bernardo High School. RELATED: Police investigate threatening messages at Rancho Bernardo High SchoolAn act of vandalism so terrifying, the school stepped up to help police find the person behind it. They are offering a ,000 reward to anyone who has information that leads to the arrest of the suspect, said Principal David LeMaster. "It starts at home, guys," said one parent. "Stop pointing the fingers at them and step up for yourself and know what your child is doing." There is still a lot of fear in at the school. It's only been one day since someone painted the threatening around campus. Words like "school shooting, Florida was nothing" and "murder, blood, chaos" have parents questioning the safety of their children."These images are quite frightening to be honest with you," Michelle Perry said. Her 15-year-old daughter texted her that morning after she saw the graffiti. "I immediately texted (my daughter) back. I texted her the pictures, I said 'you need to go to the office. You need to figure out what's going on.'"Perry attended the school meeting Tuesday night to talk more about how parents and faculty are going to keep their kids safe. Principal David LeMaster calls the message a hate crime and terroristic threats -- saying the school is working with police to catch the person who did it. A second meeting will be held at the school Thursday at 3 p.m. Parents hope to continue the conversation and brainstorm ways to make sure students stay safe.     1817

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Wednesday, a San Diego City Council Infrastructure Committee was briefed on the progress of a downtown building that’s presently costing taxpayers millions and may end up costing tens of millions more.The 19-story building at 101 Ash Street was supposed to be about saving taxpayers money and improving communication among city employees. But some council members say it’s becoming a symbol for just the opposite."What people need to remember is this is tax-payer money," says Councilman David Alvarez.
