It’s a rift that some women feel when they go to the salon: women with short hair, simple cuts still end up paying more than men, even if the time it takes for the haircuts is the same.A new trend, though, aims to change that. Across the country, new gender-neutral salons are charging by the minute and not the gender. At Bee Sweet Salon giving unique cuts is nothing new, but how they price them is cutting edge."Our salon is gender-free, especially when it comes to pricing," said owner Dani Bee.Clients at the Bee Sweet Salon pay by the time spent in the chair, not by their gender."It's an arbitrary way to price a haircut," said Bee. On average, women pay about for a cut, while a man pays on average, according to The Beauty Association.Emily Hope Dobkin was tired of paying more for her haircuts than her husband was paying for his. She said the time they spend in the chair was the same. "The price would go up every year, and I was like maybe. I shouldn't be getting my haircut this often because I can't afford it," Dobkin said. It’s not just haircuts that are priced by gender. The Pink Tax has brought to light the extra money women pay for products such as razors, shampoo, clothes, dry cleaning and more."It allows us to see where things are gendered and where they don't need to be," said hair stylist Abrean Sophia Marie.Abrean believes it’s about making everyone feel included. Besides giving great cuts, both Bee and Abrean say equality and inclusion is just as important."I just hope companies and salons do more of this because it's so important,” Dobkin said. “And it's 2020; it's about time." 1633

It's Opening Day for Major League Baseball! That means it’s time for warmer weather, baseball and…long lines at the ball park. But to shorten waiting times, stadiums around the country are using CLEAR, the biometric screening you see at the airports. At the Colorado Rockies Coors Field, fans typically wait on average about 15 to 20 minutes before getting into the stadium. With the new addition of CLEAR, the wait time is cut down to about 5 minutes. “They can really come to the ball park whenever and experience that expedited entry,” explains Walker Monfort with the Colorado Rockies. The team partnered with CLEAR to give fans the opportunity to get priority into the ballpark. Signing up for CLEAR at a stadium is free, but you can only use your membership at that stadium. But if you sign up for the 9/year membership at an airport, it will give you a priority at both locations. “You use your fingerprints, just like you would at the airport. You get into the ballpark,” says Ed O’Brien, head of sports at CLEAR, of the process. “We will then check your ticket. Then, you will go through the screening process, whether with a metal detector or with a wand.” More than a dozen stadiums across the country are using CLEAR. O'Brien says Clear is planning to expand the number of stadiums and how the technology is used. In Seattle, Seahawks and Mariners fans can link their driver’s license and credit card to their CLEAR account to grab a beer at the concession stand with their finger print. CLEAR is working to one day allow fans to use their fingertip as a ticket. 1593

It was just an ordinary day for a snowplow driver in California, until he struck a car buried in snow -- then his day turned into a rescue mission. On February 17, the driver was clearing the snow-covered roads of South Lake Tahoe when he struck the back of a car that was illegally parked on the street. The driver contacted police to start the process of getting the vehicle towed out of the way, but as police and the driver started to dig out the car, to their surprise, a woman stuck her hand out of the car window waving for help. She said she had been there four to five hours, but the amount of snow covering her car led officials to believe she possibly was there longer."Being inside of a buried car, or starting a car buried in snow, could have deadly consequences," said Chris Fiore, communications manager for the City of South Lake Tahoe. "If we had not gotten to her, I'm afraid this story would have a very different ending."It took some time to dig her out, but the 48-year-old woman was able to walk away from the scene uninjured.City officials released news of the incident on Tuesday to warn residents about parking illegally, especially while the area braces for another winter storm."One of the biggest issues we've had this winter is illegally parked cars," said Ray Jarvis, public works director, 1331

Kings Island will not open for Winterfest Monday night, due to concerns over inclement winter weather, according to a Tweet from the company. Ohio is in the midst of back to back winter storms. On Sunday, areas around Cincinnati, which is 20 miles south of Ohio's Kings Island, had 2-3 inches of snow. Areas around Kings Island on Monday could also see another couple inches of snow, in addition to some freezing drizzle. The park stated that tickets purchased for Monday night will still be valid for any other night while Winterfest is open, through December 31. 576

In central Missouri, there’s a city of about 5,000 residents. But the small community is getting some national attention, thanks to one of its beloved residents. Lyn Woolford is not only Ashland, Missouri’s police chief, he ensures the children of Ashland get to school safely by directing traffic every morning. "Leadership includes participation," Woolford says. Crossing guard and police chief are just a few of the many hats Woolford wears. But even with so much responsibility as the newly appointed police chief, Woolford says he couldn’t give up his crossing guard gig after six years. “Evidentially I have a knack for this, and I do it well,” he says. That's why the school got together this year to let Chief Woolford know they appreciate his commitment. They nominated him for a special recognition, and Woolford won! The chief was named “America’s Favorite Crossing Guard” by the group Safe Kids Worldwide. His award earned the Southern Boone School District a ,000 prize to continue keeping roads safe. 1032
