In a room of blue serenity, Amelia Moutin prepares for 90 minutes of what she describes as a completely unique sensation.“I think if you let yourself go, it takes about 30 minutes, and then once you kind of settle in and let your mind and body meld together, it’s such a euphoric-relaxation experience that is like none other,” Moutin described. The practice is called floating.“Technically, you lay in 10 inches of water, and 1,100 pounds of Epsom salt. And so, with the buoyancy of the salt, you float right on top of the water,” Samana Float Center owner Heather Clift said.Another term for it is sensory deprivation. The 94-degree water makes it challenging to know where your skin and the water meet creating a feeling of weightlessness. Clift says it was created by a gentleman named John C. Lilly in the early 1950s.“Sensory deprivation is where we void you of all of your senses, so with no light and no sound, there’s no smells in the float tank and there’s no real feeling,” Clift said.Moutin has been floating for a year now, and she tries to go once a month.“It’s kind of like floating in your own little ocean, but you have no fear at all. There’s no sharks, there’s no tide, there’s no possibility of drowning, so there’s literally nothing that can take away from the experience,” Moutin said. With no distractions, Moutin says she’s able to completely let go, relieving herself from the stressors of life. According to Clift, floating can help people who live with anxiety, PTSD, high blood pressure and insomnia among many other things.“It takes you from your sympathetic nervous system, which is your fight or flight, that’s what keeps you alive, and it puts you into the parasympathetic nervous system. And that is called rest and digest,” Clift said.Clift says shutting down your nervous system causes your body to drop its cortisol levels and replace it with dopamine. Dopamine is the hormone that makes our body feel happy and satisfied. It also boosts your immune system. Before the pandemic even started, Clift says the self-cleaning process of the tanks was already very effective at killing germs.“So, if there was anything that could live in 1,100 pounds of Epsom salt, the hydrogen peroxide would cling to it, it would go through the filter, and the UV light would blow it up, so it is impeccably clean," Clift said. However, in case that’s not enough, they’ve also started using ozone to clean all surfaces.“It kills SARS, coronaviruses…up to 99 percent,” Clift said.Clift says many people have made floating a priority this year because they need it now more than ever. Moutin agrees.“Ultimately as a world, we’re experiencing a traumatic event together, and trauma creates stress and issues in our tissues as we like to say,” Moutin said.Even if you don’t notice any physical health benefits, Clift says floating is a great way to relax.“I tell you to take a nap on some water for 90 minutes. How often can you do that? It’s really a special thing. Everybody should float at least once in their life,” Clift said. 3047

House Democrats have failed to override President Donald Trump’s veto of a measure that would have reversed the Education Department’s tough policy on loan forgiveness for students misled by for-profit colleges. The House voted 238-173 on Friday in support of the override measure, coming up short of the two-thirds majority needed to send it to the Senate. It's a victory for Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, whose policy on student loan disputes was in jeopardy after Congress voted to reverse it in March. It now remains in place and will take effect July 1.The resolution would have repealed the final rules related to discharges of loans for borrower defense to loan repayment and other circumstances and prohibit reissuing similar rules in the future, according to the Congressional Budget Office. 812

In a debate that featured frequent interruptions, President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden sparred for the first of three meetings between the two candidates.Despite frequent interruptions and personal attacks, several important questions on policy were asked, but not always answered.1) Biden opposes Green New DealBiden said he is not in favor of the so-called “Green New Deal,” and instead prefers the “Biden Plan.” But on Biden’s website, he says, “Biden believes the Green New Deal is a crucial framework for meeting the climate challenges we face.”During Tuesday’s debate, Biden said, "No, I don't support the Green New Deal. I support the Biden plan I put forward, which is different than what he calls the radical Green New Deal."When pressed on the cost of his plan, Biden said his plan would add millions of jobs."We are going to be in a position where we can create good jobs by making sure the environment is clean and we are all in better shape," Biden said.2) A vaccine is coming, Trump saysTrump said that the US will see coronavirus vaccines faster than some public health experts say the country should expect to see them.“We have our military that delivers soldiers and they can do 200,000 a day,” Trump said.Trump said that the federal response to the coroanvirus has saved thousands of lives."We got the gowns, we got the masks, we made ventilators, you wouldn't have made ventilators, and now we are weeks away from the vaccine, we are doing therapeutics already, fewer people are dying when they get sick, far fewer people are dying. We've done a great job," Trump said.3) Biden won’t answer if he’d pack the Supreme CourtAs Senate Democrats have toyed with the idea of adding Supreme Court justices if he is elected along with a Democratic-majority Senate, Biden would not answer whether he would agree with the plan.“Whatever position I take on that, that will become the issue,” Biden said. “The issue is, the American people should speak. You should go out and vote. You're in voting now.”Trump then pressed Biden to answer the question, Biden responded, "Will you shut up, man?"4) Trump lacks specifics on health care planTrump was pressed by moderator Chris Wallace to explain how he would replace the Affordable Care Act if given a second term. Trump has been trying to get the remaining provisions of the act revoked in federal court after getting the individual mandate struck down.Trump signed an executive order in July to offer Medicare prescription drug rebates. The effects of that rebate are too early to tell.“I'm cutting drug prices into going,” Trump said, "which no president has encouraged to do because you are going against big pharma. At the prices, they will be coming down 80 to 90%. You could have done it during your 47 year period in government, but you didn't do it. Nobody has done it.”“He has no plan for healthcare,” Biden responded. “He sends out wishful thinking. He has executive orders that have no power. He hasn't lowered drug costs for anybody. He has been promising the plan since he got elected. He has none, almost like everything else he talks about. He does not have a plan.”5) Biden, Trump disagree on trusting election resultsWhile Biden said he would accept the results of the upcoming election once the votes are counted, Trump would not make the same declaration.“The fact is I will accept it and he will too. You know why? Because once the winner is declared after all the, all the ballots are counted, all the votes are counted. That'll be the end of it. That will be the end of it,” Biden said.Trump said that the Supreme Court might need to be involved with the election.“ I think I'm counting on them to look at the ballots, definitely. I don't think, well, I hope we don't need them in terms of the election itself, but for the ballots, I think so," Trump said. 3864

IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) - An altercation over a mask turned ugly at an Imperial Beach taco shop on Thursday night.Just before 10 p.m. at Don Pancho's Taco Shop, surveillance video shows a customer at the walk-up order window. He's using his shirt and sleeve to cover his face."Our cashier says he has to wear a proper face mask. The customer gets upset. The cashier offers a face mask that we have on hand for those who don't have masks. He thinks about it and gets upset," said manager Myra Espinoza. In the video, the man waves his hand, apparently waving off the mask offer, before he begins walking away. Moments later, there is a loud sound."He heard something hit the window, and the window falling and shattering down," said Espinoza. The video revealed the cause: the man took his skateboard and thrust into one of the restaurant's windows."It hurts. That's like my house. It's so disrespectful. I wouldn't go to his house and break his window," said Espinoza.Espinoza says it's not the first time someone has gotten upset over the mask policy."We have sliding windows. One gentleman grabbed the sliding windows so hard, it bounced back," said Espinoza.Still, those types of incidents are rare. Thursday's vandalism is the first time things have turned destructive."It's uncalled for and unnecessary. We're all trying to what's best and keep people safe," said Espinoza. The vandalism totaled about 0 dollars in damage. Anyone with information is asked to call the Imperial Beach Sheriff's Station at 619-498-2400. 1536

In Bucks County, Pennsylvania, prosecutors are arguing that 30-year-old Samantha Jones killed her 11-week-old son, R.J., by breastfeeding while using drugs.According to the criminal complaint, R.J. died from ingesting a "combination of fatal drugs through breast milk" and is being charged with criminal homicide.Jones' attorney, Louis Busico, said that Jones "absolutely, unequivocally loved that child" and never intended to harm him.According to an affidavit, Jones told investigators that about 3 a.m. April 2, she heard R.J. crying. He had been primarily breastfed, Jones said, but she had recently started using formula because she worried that he wasn't getting enough milk and wasn't sleeping. She was too tired to make a bottle of formula, according to the affidavit, so she decided to nurse him. She then dozed on and off for a few more hours. Before her husband, Vincent McGovern, left for the day, he made R.J. a bottle and left it with Jones. She remembers feeding R.J., putting him back in his bassinet around 6:30 a.m. and going back to sleep. In the affidavit, Jones said she woke up about an hour later and panicked when she saw that R.J. was pale and had bloody mucus coming out of his nose. Jones and her mother, who also lived in the house, called 911 and began CPR.R.J. was taken to a hospital by ambulance and pronounced dead by 8:30 a.m.According to the Bucks County Coroner's Office, the autopsy revealed traces of methadone, amphetamine and methamphetamine were found in the infant's blood and contributed to his death. The affidavit further noted that the examiner who performed the autopsy said "R.J. ingested the combination of fatal drugs through breast milk."According to the affidavit, Jones told the investigators that she had been prescribed methadone since pregnancy to help manage her addiction to opioid painkillers, but there is no mention of other drugs.Investigators say they tested the bottle last used to feed R.J., as well as the can of formula, and found no traces of illicit drugs. In a news release, Bucks County Deputy District Attorney Kristin M. McElroy said it is possible that Jones could face a murder charge that carries a mandatory life sentence. The prosecutor's office did not offer any additional comment.Since her arrest, Busico said, his client is "completely in a state of depression." He added that the charges and arrest kicked Jones when she was already down, dealing with the death of her child. When asked about amphetamine or methamphetamine drug use by Jones, Busico would not comment.Jones' preliminary hearing was set for Wednesday. Through her attorney, she declined to speak with CNN. 2666
