SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Officials with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation say Donovan State Prison officials confiscated a cell phone Tuesday from an inmate who was allegedly using the phone to harass and threaten a woman in New York.According to Christina Neal, 37-year-old Brandon Baker, a prisoner serving 75 years to life at Donovan in South San Diego County, contacted her nearly two weeks ago.“I started getting messages from someone named Brandon Baker, but I had never heard of him before,” Neal said. Neal says Baker found her on Facebook through mutual friends and family members and then began sending her inappropriate messages through Facebook messenger.“He put ‘ma, what’s up, you looking really good. I’d like to get to know you,’” Neal said. “and he was like, ‘you're really sexy.’ And I didn't respond. So then a couple of days later, I got another message from him, and he's talking about my daughter.” “So I was just like ‘I don't know who you are. I don't know how you got pictures of me and my daughter, but please leave me alone, I'm married, and I don't want to have anything to do with you,’” Neal added.Neal says the tone of the messages escalated and Baker told her he would be getting out next month.“He said he was gonna come to my house and said he was gonna rape me,” she said. “I’m very nervous, just because hearing what (he) did, (he) doesn’t seem like (he’s) that nice of a person.”CDCR says they are investigating the case, and Baker could face more punishment depending on what they find on the phone they seized.They released the following statement:“Contraband cellphones are often used to in criminal and illicit activities, conduct drug trafficking, enable gang communication, and harass and intimidate victims and witnesses. Their presence affects safety and security in state prisons and California’s communities. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation uses a multi-layered approach to detect and find contraband cellphones. He does not need to be roaming the streets,” she said Monday morning.The Orange County District Attorney's Office says Smith claims to have killed three boys and molested 200 others.San Diego County Undersheriff Mike Barnett spoke to ABC10 News on Sunday night. “He liked to be referred to while he was in the state mental hospital as Mr. RTK, which is rape, torture, kill,” he said.It was last Tuesday when he said the CA Department of State Hospitals released Smith from Coalinga psychiatric facility without any restrictions under Megan's law, meaning he is not required to register as a sex offender.Deputies say he's served his time and is free to go where he wants.Before arriving in San Diego, the 59-year-old went to Orange, Corona and Lake Elsinore which sparked outrage in Los Angeles. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are searching for a suspect after a man was shot and killed in San Diego’s El Cerrito neighborhood late Saturday night, San Diego Police say.Police were called to the 5700 block of El Cajon Boulevard just after 11 p.m. Saturday after receiving reports of a possible shooting in the area.When they arrived, officers found a man with an apparent gunshot to the head. He was taken to the hospital where he later died, according to police.Little is known about the circumstances surrounding the shooting, but police say the victim was involved in a fight with the suspect, identified as Joseph Mehlenbacher, 18.“Mehlenbacher and the gun are still outstanding. He is considered armed and dangerous,” police said in a news release.He was last seen driving a white 2002 Honda Accord with California license plate 8CJY250.Police urged the public not to approach Mehlenbacher if spotted. “Please do not make any attempt to contact Mehlenbacher. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police are searching for a group of males targeting local Apple stores in the North County.Police said two Apple locations, one in Carlsbad and the other in Escondido, have been targeted in a series of grab and runs. During the incidents, police say the males generally enter in hoodies or jackets and grab multiple Apple devices on display tables before quickly exiting.Outside, a getaway vehicle is usually waiting, police added.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhoodThe thefts occurred at the Carlsbad location, 1923 Calle Barcelona in the Forum Carlsbad, on May 16, June 18, July 11, and July 13, and the Escondido store, at 272 E. There may also be a female suspect involved, police said.Since January 2018, the incidents have resulted in more than 0,000 of losses.
