Law enforcement officials in Oregon say there is no evidence that anti-fascists or right-wring groups were the cause of a series of devastating wildfires throughout the state.Oregon is one of about a dozen states in the western U.S. that are currently battling historic wildfires, which have spread due to heatwaves combined with dry and humid conditions. But as the fires spread in Oregon, so have conspiracy theories linking their origin. According to USA Today, several Facebook posts have gone viral in recent days that claim the fires were started in connection with ongoing civil unrest in Portland. One of those posts included a screenshot of what appeared to be a status update by the Medford Police Department. That post claimed that five members of the "Proud Boys" — a right-wing group known for inciting violence at protests — had been arrested for arson due to anonymous tips. 895

Lisa Palmer, a former student at Hunter College in New York, hasn't taken classes or paid tuition since 2016, but she's still living the college lifestyle.According to the New York Post, Palmer has continued to live in her dorm room, despite repeated demands that she vacate. Palmer originally enrolled at Hunter College in 2010, after briefly attending St. John's University in New York. In 2016, Hunter College claims that Palmer dropped out of school — but Palmer maintains that the school wouldn't allow her to register for classes after she disputed her tuition bill. But even after Palmer stopped taking classes, she remained in her 100-square-foot dorm room. She continued to live in the room despite receiving an eviction notice in June 2016. Hunter College stepped up the fight in fall 2017, when an attorney sent a letter to Palmer requiring her to vacate the premises by Oct. 31.Palmer told the Post she will continue to fight the eviction — despite saying that she feels dorm life is "really lonely" for someone in her 30s. The case is currently being weighed by the Manhattan Supreme Court.Alex Hider is a writer for the E.W. LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A Fort Myers, Florida brewery is creating a beer with a derivative of marijuana. It doesn't contain the THC that makes you high, but it does affect the aroma. Point Ybel Brewing Company has developed their SowFlo IPA, which they say is infused with essential oils from marijuana plants. The brew is available at their brewery in cans right now, but they plan to debut another big batch on tap on April 20th.Chief Photojournalist Curt Tremper takes a closer look in the video above and lets the brewers break it down for you in their own words.  596

LIPAN, Texas – A man in Texas is dead after a possible mountain lion attack and officials are warning nearby residents to keep young children inside at night as they search for the animal.Around 3:30 p.m. last Thursday, deputies with the Hood County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 15000 block of Howell Rd. in Lipan in reference to a missing person call.Deputies were told Christopher Allen Whiteley, 28, was missing and last seen on Wednesday, in the early morning hours.Deputies checked a wooded area nearby and eventually found Whiteley deceased, the sheriff's office said.Preliminary findings show Whiteley died from a wild animal attack, possibly a mountain lion. The sheriff’s office has contacted a governmental trapper with the USDA, who specializes in tracking and removing mountain lions. Officers said they'll work with the trapper and Texas game wardens to locate the animal. The sheriff's office urged the Lipan community to be mindful of their surrounding and to keep their young children and animals inside at night.“The safety of Hood County citizens are my priority one, but please don’t interfere with the process of locating the animal and stay clear of the area being actively worked by officials," said Hood County Sheriff Roger Deeds.Whiteley’s body was sent to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. This story was originally published by Thalia Brionez at KXXV. 1415

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan election officials on Monday certified Democrat Joe Biden’s 154,000-vote victory in the state amid President Donald Trump’s brazen attempts to subvert the results of the election. The Board of State Canvassers, which has two Republicans and two Democrats, confirmed the results on a 3-0 vote with one abstention. Allies of Trump and losing GOP Senate candidate John James had urged the panel to delay voting for two weeks to audit votes in heavily Democratic Wayne County, home to Detroit. There has been a whirlwind of unproven allegations of fraud and a string of lawsuits since the election three weeks ago.GOP canvassers in Wayne County, Michigan, originally voted to block the certification of the vote tally, but later changed their vote. The motion to hold another vote came following hours of public comments condemning Republican canvassers' decisions to vote against the certification.Trump met with two top GOP lawmakers in Michigan on Friday. Although the results of the 2020 election results were discussed, the lawmakers released a statement that they have not seen any credible evidence of election fraud. "We have not yet been made aware of any information that would change the outcome of the election in Michigan and as legislative leaders, we will follow the law and follow the normal process regarding Michigan’s electors, just as we have said throughout this election," said Michigan Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey and Speaker of the House Lee Chatfield.Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said that "democracy has prevailed" following the board's certification of the 2020 results. "Today’s vote of the State Board of Canvassers’ to certify Michigan’s November election confirms the truth: the election was fair and secure, and the results accurately reflect the will of the voter, Benson, a Democrat, tweeted. "Our democracy, like those who administer it, is resilient. Today it survived an unprecedented attack on its integrity. There will no doubt be more in the future, based on falsehoods and misinformation. But then, as now, we will respond with facts, data, and the truth," Benson added. 2168
