You know spring has sprung when hundreds of people daily turn to Twitter to vent about their itchy eyes, dripping nose and uncontrollable sneezing and coughing.Seasonal allergies, which affect about 36 million Americans, aren't just an annoyance; many doctors agree that there is a real connection between allergies and mood."'Cranky' is really the best word for it," said Katie Ingram, 30, of Alexandria, Virginia, a triathlete who has seasonal allergies. "I take a lot of medication for it, and that makes me sleepy. And I can't do a lot of the things that I like to do outside, so that makes me cranky. ... The wheezing part of it makes me feel tired."In some people, such annoyances are more serious. Research has shown that there is about a 50% increase in the risk for depression in a person suffering allergies, and if you've been seen by an allergist, that about triples the likelihood of having depression, said Dr. Paul Marshall, neuropsychologist at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. Those are correlations found in scientific studies, but they don't show that allergies cause clinical depression. In practice, allergy-connected mood changes usually boil down to mild depressive symptoms, like feeling sad, lethargic and fatigued, Marshall said. Some people say they're more likely to cry during the allergy season. Allergies could make symptoms even worse in a person with clinical depression, experts say."It's important for people to understand that experiencing allergies can affect their mood," Marshall said. That's not to say that all people with allergies have depression or that all people with depression have allergies. But experiencing allergic reactions does seem to be a risk factor for developing depression -- not necessarily the emotional side of the condition but more physiological symptoms such as low energy. But is all of this in spite of the use of antihistamines or because of it? And is it the actual allergic reaction that causes these symptoms or just the sleep disturbances and general discomfort?  2060

comes in.“Find your anchor is a grassroots movement aimed at suicide awareness and prevention,” Find Your Anchor CEO Ali Borowsky explains. “It all kind of manifests itself into these little blue boxes that we launch into the world. So, you’re walking down the street, you see this little blue box, you open the lid, it says ‘If you’re feeling lost, hopeless, suicidal, this is for you. If not, leave it for someone else in need.’”Find Your Anchor is based out of Orange County, California, but boxes have reached places all across the globe. The boxes can be requested by people in need, ordered by mentors who want to help people in need, or launched in a public place for somebody to find. Borowsky says she thinks launching them organically into the world, is the most powerful way for somebody to encounter a box.“It’s like a message from the universe," she says. "Like ‘I was meant to find this, this was put here for me.’”The box holds multiple items to give people hope: a deck of cards titled “52+ reasons to live”, a bracelet, an infographic on depression, a sticker, a couple posters, some cards on how to become a messenger, and a list of resources. Borowsky felt inspired to create Find Your Anchor, after her own struggles with mental health. She attempted to take her life multiple times. Now, she's helping others who may be in a dark place. Keeping track of each individual box, Borowsky says she’s received notes from many people saying the box has saved their life. And that’s why more and more mental health advocates are standing behind Find Your Anchor.“I like the find your anchor box because it’s empowering the individual immediately, and yet provides resources for them if they need more than just the box,” Amanda Greene says.Greene says she can’t stop ordering Find Your Anchor boxes, because she understands their powerful impact.“Living with chronic illness and having it for a long time, there’s days where you’re like ‘OK, I’m done,’” she says. As soon as the people receiving boxes are in a better place, they’re encouraged to pass it on, adding an item that was an anchor for them.Whether it’s a phone call on the top of a bridge, or a box by the beach, what’s most important for people to realize, is that they’re not alone, they’re loved, help is available, and there is hope.“My core belief in the height of my darkness was that no one would care," Borowsky recalls. "If we can help convince you that strangers care about you, then it shouldn’t be so hard to feel that your family and friends do as well."“If you are suicidal, there is help. And I encourage you to reach out,” Elmer says. ******************************************************If you’d like to reach out to the journalist for this story, email Elizabeth Ruiz at elizabeth.ruiz@scripps.com 2794

— a mystery that remains in hot debate even today.KNXV reached out to several aviation experts who theorized the lights seen Sunday could be from parachute flares used by the military or even helicopters or other aircraft dropping flares during training. In fact, the Outlaw Military Operations Area sits not far from where the video was shot. But video found online of those types of exercises just doesn't seem to match."There were no navigation lights, even the military has to have navigation lights on, that's an FAA rule," Maier said.KNXV reached out to the Federal Aviation Administration, Luke Air Force Base and the Army National Guard, but none could say for certain what it was, leaving the answer to what was caught on camera to anyone's guess."I know what I saw, and I don't think it was from here, and I think it was definitely something else," Maier said. This story was originally published by 908

now crossing the border into the United States. It looks like motor oil, but the black watery tar sitting in five-gallon buckets is nearly pure THC concentrate."I started to see the people that would usually backpack marijuana through the desert were now backpacking up crude oil," said Detective Matthew Shay with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.Cartels make the concentrate by using a complex process to strip THC off marijuana plants. What's left is distilled and filtered further, taking a product that began at about 6% THC into one that carries a THC content of more than 80%.Shay says it takes about 250 pounds of low-grade commercial marijuana to produce a five-gallon bucket of crude cannabis oil. Once in a concentrated form, profits skyrocket. Each bucket could produce more than 0,000 in vaping cartridges."These are all black-market cartridges — none of these are from a licensed dispensary," Shar said.Once the crude oil from the cartels hits the streets, dealers in the United States begin cutting the product with additives. Shay confirmed that dealers will add ingredients like vitamin E acetate — a compound linked to EVALI, a lung illness related to vaping that has sickened thousands across the country. However, a link between black market cannabis concentrate and EVALI has not yet been confirmed.Shay confirmed that American smoking habits are driving the new trend. Using vape cartridges to deliver THC is now the most popular way of consuming marijuana."That's the whole business right?" Shay said, "If there isn't a market, there's no reason to be shipping the stuff up."It's that demand that fuels the cartel's new strategy — creating a risk no one should take."The black market cannabis cartridges are going to be hazardous, period," Shay said.Labs are testing the crude oil to find out exactly what kind of chemicals are in the product. This story was originally published by Cameron Polom on 1930
